Year 8 students crafted their own version of a McDonald's Happy Meal, featuring homemade chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries, and a fresh salad. Through this activity, they explored flavouring options, including chicken salt and healthier alternatives, aligning their meal with the principles from the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. This complex practical required students to master various kitchen skills, from breading techniques to creating their own salad dressings, while also delving into discussions on preservatives and additives. It was a fun and eye-opening experience in preparing healthier fast-food alternatives!

This week, Year 9 students dived into the art of making homemade chicken and pork wontons, exploring both technique and nutrition in Food Tech. Alongside mastering the preparation of fillings, students discussed carbohydrates' essential role as an energy source, how they impact body functions, and the benefits of homemade, nutrient-rich meals over processed alternatives.

Students also experimented with different folding styles for the wontons and tasting their creations was a highlight, with many students expressing surprise at how much fresher and more flavourful their homemade wontons were compared to store-bought or takeaway options. It was a deliciously educational experience!
