Grade 5 Report

Geography Unit

Aloha! Bonjour! Ciao!

Throughout the term, the Grade 5 children have been learning about different countries for their Geography unit. We started off by looking at the difference between continents and countries and looking at globes, maps, and atlases. We then headed off on a fantastic trip to the Museum of Chinese Australian History, where the students got to learn about Chinese history in both China and Australia.

Children loved the day and learnt about events such as the Gold Rush and migration. After this, the students all received a country to research with a partner and since then, they have been working on developing a deeper understanding on their given country!

So far, we have learnt lots of new facts about our chosen countries, such as the population, leaders, and their location on a world map. We also hope to develop our ability to understand more about a wide range of various countries on all the different continents and compare this information with that of Australia! Over the coming weeks, students will explore their country’s art, food and of course, tourism.

The Grade 5 students can’t wait to present their countries to their peers and parents at our Geography Expo Day which will be held at the end of the term.

The children plan on putting on a huge event to share their work and understanding about their countries and to celebrate culture.

It is truly an event that is not to be missed so please sure to look out for further information about it!
