Art Scholarship

Art Scholarship Excursion

Last Wednesday our Art Scholarship team hopped onto the Base 1270 bus with Mr. Conlan and headed to Melbourne, where we visited Zart Art’s student gallery and workshop space. Whilst we were there, we had the opportunity to participate in some drawing exercises, which were designed to help us loosen up and take creative risks with our drawing as well as look with an artists’ eye at lines and shapes that we can truly see, rather than those we expect to see. We had a really nice time browsing the current displays in the student gallery space, including the exhibition of the Zart student prize entries which blew us all away. We couldn’t believe that some of the entries were made by such young artists from all over our country, and we loved how they utilised so many different types of media, whilst all being postcard sized! Our hosts Tania and Colleen then invited us to install some of our own artwork on a wall in the gallery, which was a lovely honour. We had spent Term 3 working on our shading skills and developing a self-portrait showcasing shading in our own styles, so these were the majority of the artworks we had brought with us. It was a whole team effort, led by Kayla our chosen curator, to plan out and hang all of the artworks in a balanced way. When our art installation was complete, we had our lunch and a free draw in the notebooks that Zart had gifted to us, then headed back downstairs to check out the retail art supply shop, which is where the majority of our school art supplies come from.

A massive thanks and well done to all the students involved in this awesome day- what an inspiring bunch! Thanks also to Mr. Conlan for taking a day out of his busy schedule to drive the bus 😊
