A Great Start to Term 4
Well done to all our students on a great first week back. We had a Scotsburn assembly on Friday where lots of information was shared and as always, our Grade 6 leaders did a fabulous job running the assembly. Last week we did not give out a Bunjil award, however, we did give out an award to one student from each class as voted by their classmates. This award was presented to Ella from SC1 and Albus from SC2, as voted for by their peers, for helping make Scotsburn an amazing place to learn and be happy. Well done to both these students! Thank you to our parents who came along to watch our first assembly for the term. We had our first kinder transition on Friday where our current students met our new Preps starting in 2025.
Our Cooking, Photography and Art Scholarship programs kicked off again and students were excited to continue their learning journeys. On Thursday, Amity and Mrs. Anderson headed to Melbourne as part of the Young Authors Program and went to the State Library and participated in a literacy tour around Melbourne.
This week, we wish Mr. Morgan and all the SC2 Grade five and grade six students the best as they head off to camp and then Sovereign Hill at the end of the week. We cannot wait to hear all about your adventures.
This week SC1 Grade Preps, 1s and 2s are also involved in the Prep to grade two Sports Day this Friday. Students will start and finish the day at the Buninyong campus. Please reach out if you have any questions. Have a fabulous week.
Scotsburn Parent Meeting
In the coming weeks we will be holding a parent meeting to kick off Term 4. This will be an important meeting to discuss some fundraising events coming up as well as discuss lots of end of year arrangements. Please keep an eye out on Compass for the time and date of this meeting, as well as more details in next week’s newsletter. We would love to see as many members as possible of our parent community in attendance.
Kinder Transition Program
This week our kindergarten transition day is on Wednesday due to the Prep to grade two Sports Day. Last week we welcomed our new 2025 Preps on Friday, and it was wonderful to see how welcoming and excited our students were to show them all the great things we can do and see at Scotsburn. We look forward to the next three sessions.
Home Reading
Our reading goal for this term has been reset and we are aiming for all students to complete 35 nights of reading in Term four. We reset the goal and decided on a target of 35 nights of reading for the term instead of adding to our previous target. This way we hope to ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to reach the goal and be successful.
P-2 Sports Day
We have our Prep-2 Sports Day coming up this Friday the 18th of October. Ms. Morris has done a wonderful job organising a range of activities for the students to participate in. The Sports Day will be held at the Buninyong Campus, with the SC1 Grade 1 & 2s between 9:30 - 10:50 a.m., and the SC1 Preps between 11:40am - 1:00pm. Parents are more than welcome to come along and watch! Students are invited to dress in their house colours for the day, if you are unsure of your child’s house colour please check Compass.
We will start and finish the day at the Buninyong campus. Please meet Mrs. Anderson in the courtyard at 8:45am. Pick up will be 3:30pm in the courtyard as well.
Arrangements for Grade 3/4 Scotsburn students this week
With Mr Morgan and our Grade five and six students off to both Halls Gap and Sovereign Hill this week, we have arranged for Lachy, Darragh, Linc, Seth and Albus to join SC1 for the week. This Friday, these students will also join SC1 at the Buninyong campus for the whole day for the Prep to grade two Sports Day. This will include spending some time in some Grade three Buninyong Campus classes during the day. We will include reminders for these arrangements in next week’s newsletter.
For our Grade three and four parents, please also keep an eye out on Compass for the initial deposit for the 3/4 camp, which will be from Wednesday 4th - Thursday 5th December.
Enrolments for 2025
If you have a child or know of someone who has a child to enrol in Prep for 2025, please see Ana for an enrolment form, go to the office at Buninyong or access an enrolment form via our school website. We are excited that in line with the current Department of Education guidelines we are able to provide our Pre-Schooler Program during the fourth term as part of our enrollment process. Once you have returned your enrolment form, you will be sent further information to book your child into the Pre-Schooler Program. Please see Ana if you require further information.
Classroom Term Newsletters
We hope everyone received a hard copy of their class newsletter last Friday. An electronic copy was also sent out to each class on Friday afternoon on Compass. As mentioned, things may change so please keep a lookout in the weekly newsletter and Compass for updates and more information.
Scotsburn Parent Volunteering
In the next week, we will send out a volunteering roster for Term four. We always cherish the parent support we receive at the campus, and we look to keep that momentum going through to the end of the year. If you are willing and able to help out the campus in some capacity, please keep an eye out for the roster coming out on Compass.
SC1 Learning Snapshot
What a great start to the term! A huge thank you for ensuring students started the term rested and ready for learning, as well as having sun hats to wear in the yard.
This term our Inquiry Unit is learning about Australia, its landmarks and geography. We have started by reading Alison Lester’s book ‘Are we there yet?’. This has been a great introduction to our states and territories as well as popular landmarks.
In Maths, we completed another week looking at 3D shapes. This week we will be exploring patterns. Each day our class completes a ‘maths review’ where we go over previous learnt content. This helps us embed knowledge in our long term memory as well as make it easier and quicker to retrieve known facts. Students love this part of the lesson where they become familiar and quicker at retrieving information. Feeling successful is a huge part of growth and makes learning fun!
We look forward to an exciting day this Friday at our Prep to grade 2 Sports day. Please ensure students wear appropriate clothing, especially footwear. A drink bottle filled with water will also be essential to keep students hydrated.
As always, if you have any questions please come and see one of us.
Thanks,
Ana and Hayley.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day. We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
