France Exchange!

Montpellier exchange - Student Reflections
Late last year, I spent four months on an exchange in Montpellier, France, living with a French family, experiencing the culture, and practicing my French. My host family was incredibly welcoming and made sure I felt at home throughout my stay. I got to experience life in a French school and built friendships I know will last a lifetime. While I sometimes found it hard to be away from my family for so long, this exchange gave me the chance to fully immerse myself in French life and language and was overall a great experience. Not only did my French speaking skills improve greatly, but I also became more confident in myself. Going on an exchange to France is a privileged opportunity, and I would strongly encourage anyone considering it to take it.

The prospect of going on exchange to France was equal parts nerve-wracking, and exhilarating. In the ten weeks I spent in Montpellier with my exchange family, I was able to become part of their city and a community, and experience day to day life in a new country in all the ways that it was similar and different to life in Australia. I got to immerse myself in the language, to the point that I was comfortable in conversation, and my vocab and my ability to understand speech increased exponentially. Probably the most exciting part of the exchange was the food (original, I know). I never knew how many different types of cheese and pastries there were until I went to France, and the smell of a French bakery in the morning will be a memory I will treasure forever. Going on exchange is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I would recommend it to anyone who’s interested.
