Year 4 Team

Term 3 in Year 4

Our Year 4 students have had a busy and exciting Term 3! We kick started the term with a focus on wellbeing and how to set ourselves up for success. Our lessons centred around the ‘ASK’ model, focusing on Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge, and how each of these support us to be successful. We looked at real world examples and unpacked how these three elements can support our learning.

We began our term with our Geography unit, where students explored the impact we have on the environment and the importance of recycling and reusing materials. Students also utilised the book The Naming of Tishkin Silk to continue developing their narrative writing skills. We have practised planning narratives and expanding on their ideas as they turn their plans from simple sentences into detailed, engaging paragraphs.

In Maths, students revisited addition and subtraction, developing efficient strategies for solving larger, worded problems. They enjoyed our mapping unit, where they practised reading grid references and understanding directions both with and without digital technology. Fractions have also been a big focus this term. Students have explored how they can represent and find fractions in collections, used recipes to practise counting by fractions and making strong connections to decimals. We have been super impressed by the persistence and positive attitude shown during these lessons.

The 3/4 camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort was definitely a highlight! We were extremely proud of how well students stepped out of their comfort zones to try new activities, and persist through activities that were challenging. They showed fantastic teamwork and came home with plenty of new friendships and memories.

It has been a busy and exciting term in Year 4 and we are looking forward to even more fun next term!
