Book Week

We celebrated book week this week, and in particular Australian School Library Day on Wednesday. The library had competitions running, and English classes made a start on Book Spine Poetry or colouring spines that feature favourite books. Plus the bell warning music played songs that related to books.

Anneliese, who completed a 12 week student teacher practical with us, was farewelled with a book-themed morning tea with the staff - supplied by the English team.

We are keeping the fun of book week going for another couple of weeks. Competitions are still open for entries. There's also book mark making at lunch time each day. Stay tuned while the school library and Student Executive finalise details for a book swap and book fair in early September. Prizes to be won, and a special book week discount will be offered by our supplier.

Trades Careers Expo

A lucky group of students travelled to the Hands on Trades Careers Expo recently. It was an opportunity to try out a range of different trades. NE Tracks Local Learning and Employment Network supported the event and ensured students were able to connect with local industries, employers and educational facilities. Industries included childcare, health, IT, renewable energy, armed forces, robotics along with most other trades.

The students were able to have hands-on experiences, such as driving an excavator or skid steer, plus interactive headsets that operated welders and simulated flying helicopters.

There was so much to see and do, that the three hours were easily filled and required an almost hectic pace to get around everything.

Students enjoyed the trip, which helped them clarify what is required for careers they are interested in.
