After 20 wonderful years at Greenhills Primary School, we say farewell to our much-loved Karen, who is retiring. Karen has been the caring heart of our school, always there in First Aid to look after every student (and quite a few staff too!) with kindness, patience and a smile. From band-aids on grazed knees, ice packs to bumps, keeping up with the daily medication conga line all the way through to broken arms and ambulance calls…Karen has been the calm, reassuring presence our community could always count on.
Over the years, she has supported thousands of children and families, building trust, comfort and connections. Karen is one of the reasons “Greenhills is G.R.E.A.T” and she has truly shaped both the spirit and culture of our school is such a positive way. Her generosity, care and good humour will be so deeply missed.
Karen, thank you for everything you have given to our students, staff and families. You have always put everyone else’s needs first and now it is time for you. We wish you a retirement filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of time to relax and enjoy life - you’ve more than earned it!
One of the strengths of our school, is the initiative, leadership and drive of our students. A G.R.E.A.T. example of this is the variety of lunchtime clubs that are organised each term. This year, Josh Hick is co-ordinating our club’s program as part of his work with our Year 6 leaders. Our clubs program is also part of the Tiered Approach to Wellbeing that we are developing as part of our 2025 Annual Implementation Plan.
Here is a list of our current clubs program and if your child would like to attend, it is as simple as lining up at the Library at the start of lunchtime or the Djilla Djerring on a Friday as well. I will also include more detail about these specific clubs next week.
Of course, we also have our Monday Madness, which is a before school club every Monday morning.
Over the last few weeks, we have been sharing our 2025 NAPLAN results. This week we are sharing our Spelling results. Overall, whilst we are very pleased with the progress our students are making in spelling, particularly when both our Year 3 and Year 5 percentages of students performing at the exceeding or strong levels are above both similar and network schools, we know that we have more work to do. In recent years we have revisited our spelling scope and sequence and also linked this work with our phonics component of our English teaching and learning.
This community connecting event is run by our Parent Association and will be held on the outdoor basketball court from 7.45am – 9am. A special bacon and egg roll food truck has been organised and two coffee carts are ALL ready to go. There will also be some outdoor fun games to play as well!
All Fathers, Grandfathers, Special People, and Students are all welcome!
Orders strictly close 3.30pm this Friday August 29th and tickets to redeem your order will be sent home with students prior to the breakfast.
James Penson,
Principal.
