OLNA Term 2

OLNA - Term 2, Weeks 9 – 10
Students who were absent during the first round of Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) testing will still have an opportunity to complete the assessment this term. Testing will take place during Weeks 9 and 10 from Monday, 15 June to Friday, 26 June 2026. Please note that this opportunity applies only to students who were absent during the first round of testing.
The OLNA provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate the minimum standards of literacy and numeracy required for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) awards the WACE at the end of Year 12 to students who have successfully met all requirements.
Students are given six opportunities (typically two per year) before the end of Year 12 to demonstrate the WACE Literacy and Numeracy requirement. The standard has three components – reading, writing and numeracy – and requires students to demonstrate proficiency, using a range of skills in each component. Once a student has demonstrated the required skills in a component, they are not required to sit that component again. The table below provides an overview of the components.
Numeracy | Reading | Writing
Number of Questions | 45 | 1 (600-word limit)
Question type | Multiple-choice | Open-ended
Mode | Online point and click | Typed online
Time | 50 minutes | 60 minutes
Delivery | Randomised forms | Randomised forms
Adjustments | Extra time, pause, coloured background and higher quality images
If your child becomes unwell during the first week of testing, the Reading and Numeracy tests can be rescheduled to the second week of the testing window. However, the Writing test must be completed within the first two days of the testing window.
For students with disabilities, we have guidelines to help determine the appropriate adjustments for equal access. More information is available on the Authority’s website under Years 11 and 12 > Assessment > Equitable Access to Assessment Policy and Guidelines.
As the testing date draws nearer, students will be able to access the OLNA schedule via their COMPASS timetable. Simply scroll forward to access the upcoming schedule. Please ensure that your child is aware of their individual test requirements, dates, times, and locations.
To further prepare students for the sorts of questions they can expect and familiarise them with the online assessment platform, access is provided to practice and example tests on a secure website. Access to the secure website for practice and example tests is as follows:
Further information can be found on the Authority’s website (www.scsa.wa.edu.au) under; Years 11 and 12 > Assessment > OLNA. There you will find more information, answers to frequently asked questions, and a brief video.
