Reports Years 7-10

Changes to Semester Reporting for Years 7–10 Students

As part of the Department of Education's commitment to consistent reporting practices across all public schools, changes have been introduced to end-of-semester reporting for students from Pre-primary to Year 10. These changes are now in effect and will be reflected in Semester 1 reports issued at the end of Term 2.

The revised reporting requirements are designed to provide families with clear, meaningful and consistent information about student learning and achievement across all Western Australian public schools.

Please note that there are no changes to Semester 1 reporting for students in Years 11 and 12. Senior school reports will continue to be issued in their current format.

One significant change for students in Years 7–10 is that end-of-semester reports will no longer include an individual teacher comment for each learning area studied. Instead, reports will contain a single year-level comment outlining the key learning dispositions, behaviours, and expectations associated with that stage of schooling. This change aligns with the Department's reporting requirements and recognises the range of opportunities available throughout the year for teachers to provide specific feedback regarding student learning and progress.

What will appear on my child's report?

Reports for students in Years 7–10 will include:

  • A grade for each learning area
  • Information regarding attitude, behaviour and effort in each learning area
  • A year-level comment outlining the key learning dispositions, behaviours and expectations associated with that stage of schooling

For students enrolled in English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD), reports will continue to include:

  • Progress against the EAL/D Progress Map across the modes of listening, speaking, reading, viewing and writing
  • Information regarding attitude, behaviour and effort

An example of the revised report format is provided below.

While reports for Years 7–10 will no longer include an individual comment for each learning area studied, families will continue to receive regular feedback throughout the year. Academic progress is communicated through task mark reports issued approximately every three weeks, while information relating to student wellbeing, behaviour and learning progress remains available through Compass Chronicle. Families also have opportunities to discuss their child's progress directly with teachers through parent-teacher meetings and other forms of communication as required.

We remain committed to maintaining open communication with families and fostering strong partnerships that support student success. Should concerns arise regarding a student's progress or achievement, families will continue to be informed in a timely manner throughout the school year.
