Volunteer Spotlight
This week, our volunteer spotlight shines on our wonderful Friday Team: Robyn and Rosie. These two kind and gentle ladies are a breath of fresh air at the end of a busy school week, and the library team is incredibly grateful for their dedication. Robyn was one of the very first people to step forward when our volunteering program began, and her reliable support has been foundational. Rosie is a new parent to our school community who brings a wonderful passion for anime and manga to the team.
Together, they make a fantastic team, particularly when it comes to supporting our youngest readers. They can often be found helping our lovely Kindergarten students from Echidna navigate their borrowing time with patience and care. When they aren't guiding our newest borrowers, they are always willing to dedicate their time to meticulously organizing the Junior Fiction section, ensuring it is perfectly presented and ready for our junior school students to explore. Thank you, Robyn and Rosie, for your kindness and hard work!
Stage 3 Debate CPS v Cammeray Public School
On Thursday, 4 June, our Stage 3 debating teams visited Cammeray Public School to take part in the Premier's Debating Challenge Education debates.
Our Year 6 team, the Librarians, debated against Cammeray Green on the topic "We should ban all tests in primary school." Representing the affirmative, Chatswood presented strong arguments highlighting the potential positive impact on mental health, the ability of teachers to assess student knowledge through in-class learning, and the physical health benefits of prioritising exercise over test preparation. Their persuasive focus on wellbeing and educational outcomes secured the team’s first win of the year.
Meanwhile, our Year 5 team, the Monitors, faced Cammeray Yellow on the topic "Schools should replace arts and music classes with more math's and science." Also affirming, the Monitors offered compelling points about simplifying daily learning skills, the role of arts as extracurricular opportunities, the essential nature of math's as a life skill, and the need for more time to understand complex scientific concepts. After a challenging debate, Cammeray emerged as the winner.
All of our debaters represented Chatswood Public School admirably, consistently upholding our school expectations. We are very proud of their efforts and look forward to our next debate in Week 10.
Scholastic Book Club
Issue 4 of Book Club is out and it is packed full of amazing books and other fun things to help enhance your child's reading. Scholastic often provides a range of books that cannot be purchased at a regular bookshop. They also create amazing bundles of book that can be great for birthday presents or simply adding some new books to your child's home library.
How to Order:
- Visit scholastic.com.au/LOOP or use the Scholastic app to place your order.
- You can also browse the catalogue online.
- Please note: Book Club orders can only be purchased via credit card. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept cash payments at the school office.
- Orders for Issue 4 close Sunday, 14 June.
Remember, 15% of any books you purchase from Book Club will go towards the school's credit which the library can then use to purchase new books free of charge. This will help us continue to expand our collection and purchase books for your children to enjoy.
Until next week friends. Keep on reading.
