“We are all beekeepers, Nuri. We make our own honey, and we distribute it to the world.”
- Christy Lefteri’s, "The Beekeeper of Aleppo".
It has been wonderful to welcome all Year 7 Humanities classes into the MRC for their Ancient Egypt research tasks. A reminder to them that we have Quick Lists for Ancient Egypt, and the Referencing Generator is on the main MRC webpage.
The Year 7s have been steaming ahead with their pages read for the Readers’ Cup. A reminder that the school holidays are a wonderful time to encourage wide reading and opening up their world view.
Both Year 7 and Year 8s have been engaged with their wide reading sessions and this will be reflected on their Semester 1 Report with the task ‘Wide Reading Novel’.
The Year 9s have made excellent use of their Synergy Library throughout the semester and we congratulate them on their spectacular Social Enterprise Business pitches made to staff and Federal Member for Melbourne, Sarah Witty.
The Year 10s and 11s should be congratulated on how they’ve conducted themselves throughout their exam period. Students used the MRC diligently and respectfully.
We have recently celebrated National Reconciliation Week, and Refugee Week. Ms Salvo has made a wonderful display for Refugee Week, and it just so happens to coincide with the Soccer World Cup. Students have loved watching some of the games during recess or lunch on the big screen in the MRC. The Socceroos Squad has 18 players with immigrant or refugee heritages, over 15 different ethnic backgrounds represented, 4 players born in or raised in refugee camps, and 3 players born outside of Australia. We have loved celebrating Refugee Week and highlighting all of the outstanding ways refugees in Australia make us a better place.

Our New Books have been flying off the shelves! Thank you to all students who have requested new purchases. One series that has been much loved is by Anh Do, writer of The Happiest Little Refugee, and his series Wolf Girl.

We have a new section in the Fiction Library called, ‘Super Readable Books.’ They’re shorter form novels packed with action, humour and adventure. A great choice for students who might feel like a long form novel is too long, however would like a book that is still targeted at their age group.
R.A.G.E Book Club has had a wonderful term celebrating all things Austen. Next term we have the theme of Climate as our focus, if you have any suggestions for us they’re very welcome.

UNLEASH THE DRAGON! Help Us Name and Design the New MRC Mascot! The results are officially in! Thanks to the R.A.G.E Book Club and survey responses, our new MRC mascot is going to be a Book Dragon!
Now, we need students' creativity to bring this legendary creature to life. You can help us in two ways:
1. Name the Mascot - Do you have the perfect name for a book-loving dragon? We want to hear it!
• How to submit: Email your best name suggestions to Ms Taylor.
• Deadline: Monday, 22 June.
• Borrow a book to have a vote: The best names will be put forward for everyone to have a vote. Each book borrowed will equal a vote!
2. Design the Mascot - Are you an artist or designer? Put your skills to the test and draw, paint or digitally design our new dragon!
• The Golden Rule: The design must be tall and rectangular in shape. We are getting a physical stand printed, so please make sure it is not wide or low, but tall! Our dragon will preside over their treasures! (The books and gems in the MRC).
• How to submit: Hand in or email your designs to Ms Taylor.
• Deadline: Tuesday, 14 July after the school holidays.
