Last week I attended the NSW Secondary Principal’s conference where we learned about the educational needs of the Generation Alpha students coming into high school and about the parenting styles of Generation Y. It is interesting to recognise the nuances between the generations. How many of these qualities sound like you?

  • Invested significantly in their own education
  • First generation to grow up with the internet and smartphones as parents
  • Shaped in an “always on” work culture era
  • Blurred work/life boundaries
  • Time poor but eager to engage
  • Immersed in a consumeristic society

Our Generation Alpha students, who are already in our schools, are:

  • The largest generation ever
  • Globally connected
  • The most formally educated
  • Materially endorsed

Gen Alpha don’t have a fear of technology; they don’t know a world without it and technology has changed the way all generations live. For Generation Alpha their three biggest fears in life are not snakes and spiders, heights or public speaking, they are:

  • Low connection
  • buffering
  • low battery

Staying connected with peers and their community is a driving desire. At Wyndham we are keen to have our students learn how to be healthy, happy and how to learn successfully in this digital age.

In the Spotlight at the Seymour Centre was a spectacular celebration of dance and creativity, showcasing the incredible talent of our students. This vibrant festival brought together diverse genres of dance performances of the highest calibre, highlighting the passion and dedication of young dancers from across NSW.

It was fabulous to see the exceptional skill and artistry of the Wyndham College dancers who performed a musical theatre piece called Money from the show Cabaret. The dancers delivered the artistic vision of our talented choreographer Bridgett Morley with energy and enthusiasm. It was a performance that truly put our students in the spotlight, demonstrating the NSW Department of Education’s commitment to fostering the arts and supporting our students’ artistic journeys.

Parents of Year 12 students are reminded that there will be HSC preparation workshops during the school holidays to support our students with major projects and examination techniques. It would be great to see as many students as possible attend.

Parents of Year 11 students are reminded that each fortnight students engage in study skills lessons delivered by the College Deputy Principals and Principal. It is during these lessons that we explicitly teach the skills of metacognition and the practical application of the most effective study techniques. These are compulsory classes.

ACU Step Up Program

Congratulations to Wyndham students Lachlan and Oliver, who have successfully completed the ACU Step Up Program — studying a university‑level subject in Sports and Exercise Science last year while still in Year 11. This is an incredible achievement and a testament to their dedication, discipline, and passion for learning.

A huge thank you to Marguerite, our Careers Adviser, for attending the graduation on behalf of the school and supporting the boys and their families on this special night.

We are proud of Lachlan and Oliver for embracing this opportunity and stepping confidently into their future pathways. What a fantastic milestone for both of them - with early entry offers to university on their way.

Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea

On behalf of everyone involved in organising Wyndham College's Biggest Morning Tea, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported this year's fundraiser for the Cancer Council.

Whether you:

  • Made an online donation,
  • Baked or cooked delicious treats,
  • Donated items for sale,
  • Purchased food and drinks on the day, or
  • Assisted with setting up, serving and selling items,

your contribution played an important role in making the event such a tremendous success.

At this stage, we have raised $1,003 through online donations and over $800 through sales on the day, bringing our current fundraising total to more than $1,800. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the generosity and community spirit of Wyndham College staff and students.

A special thank you also goes to everyone who worked behind the scenes to prepare food, organise donations, and help run the event. Your time, effort and enthusiasm were greatly appreciated. Together, we have made a meaningful contribution to supporting the Cancer Council and the important work they do in cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support services.

Thank you once again for your generosity and support.

Busways - Notice of change Route 741

Following prior consultation regarding the removal of Oakville & Maraylya from Morning Route 741 of which no feedback was received, we will proceed with this change to commence Monday 20th July 2026 as detailed below and maps are available here.

To assist parents with planning their child's travel:

  • Review your school’s updated timetable on Busways website (Select the link next to your school labelled “New Timetable” )
  • Plan your trip for real-time up to date information – new timetable data for these trips will be available from 6 July 2026.

Reason for proposed change:  to improve peak travel times between Riverstone & Gables and ensure Route 741 timetable is consistent for clearer public information. Recent on-board load checks found minimal patronage utilising this service in the areas we are proposing to remove.

If you have any concerns or require further information, please contact Busways via infoline@busways.com.au or phone our Customer Service team on 1300 69 29 29.

Thank you for your support in helping students adjust to these changes.

Kind Regards,

Busways Group
