It was lovely to celebrate this week with the Year 6 Graduating Class of 2025. This large group of Year 6s was joined by their parents and teachers in the Tim Murray Room for dinner and presentations on Wednesday night. Led by their classroom teacher, Toby Hawthorne, and Acting Head of Junior School, Bernadette Milich, each student was acknowledged and presented with a graduating certificate and momentos of the year.
One of the nicest traditions of this event is that of students being introduced using words of affirmation written by their peers. As each student was called forward to a selection of these affirmations, we heard again and again that what the students valued about their peers were things such as: being kind, being welcoming, being smart and curious, and having fun.
Sometimes we over-complicate what schools are about – these words remind us. College is here to help young people become kind, welcoming, curious and open to fun. If that’s the measure, then the Year 6 Class of 2025 have succeeded exceptional well. We wish them well in their transition to the Senior School next year.
