Hello families & Careers

Can you believe it? The end of 2025 is just around the corner! It’s been a year full of learning, laughter, and so many proud moments for our students.

These last few weeks are all about continued learning but also enjoying the time with some fun—special activities, celebrations, and moments to reflect on everything we’ve achieved.

Spreading Holiday Cheer!

Last month, our students embraced the festive spirit by creating beautiful holiday card designs. The results were amazing – full of colour, joy, and holiday spirit!

We’re excited to announce that three designs were chosen. One from each sub-school to be made into official holiday cards.

Congratulations to our 2025 Holiday Card Competition winners:

Important Safety Notice – Kinetic Sand Recall

We are working closely with the Department of Education and Training (DET) to follow all directions regarding the recent kinetic sand product recall.

Items have been assessed as low risk. If any are found, they have been securely stored in a safe location for collection.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we implement these safety measures to ensure the wellbeing of our students.

Exciting News – Help Us Choose Our New School Name

We are thrilled to announce the next step in our journey at Melton Specialist School.

Over time, many of our Senior Students have expressed interest in a name change, and we’re excited to make this happen!

Policy requirements for renaming schools include that Aboriginal language names proposed by Traditional Owners must be used.

In line with this, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation has kindly provided three beautiful name options for us to consider:

  1. Murrup Biik SchoolSpirit of Place
  2. Yiyukwa Barring SchoolDreamtime Path
  3. Djirri Djirri SchoolWillie Wagtail – a spirited and unique bird

We will be using a variety of strategies for the community to vote – we will keep you updated and hope to have this done to announce for change in 2026

Planning for 2026 – Classes and Programs

As we prepare for an exciting year ahead, our planning for 2026 is well underway! This process goes beyond organising classes – we are also looking into specialised programs to support every student’s learning journey and wellbeing.

2026 includes:

  • Class Structures - Carefully planned class groupings to ensure individualised learning and strong peer connections.
  • Teachers, Leaders, Allied Health & the Student Engagement Teams have spent much time looking at combinations of students for both academic & social grouping
  • Student voice has been incorporated with students & classroom staff nominating students who work well together and who may not work so well together

Our whole school transition afternoon is Friday 12th December. This is when students meet their new classroom team & their peers.

We look forward to a great 2026!

Thank you, Heather!

We are so grateful to Heather for kindly creating a beautiful painting for our school. Your generosity and creativity will add something truly special to our environment, and we appreciate the time and effort you put into this wonderful gift.

We will have this piece framed so we can find a special space for our school community to enjoy.
