Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Families of Our Lady Star of the Sea,

As we move closer to the 10th December and and the age restrictions on social media we'd like to shine a spot light on the online gaming platform, Roblox.

Roblox is one of the world's most popular online gaming and creation platforms, with millions of children and teens using it daily. While it offers immense creative and social opportunities, recent reports and growing expert concerns highlight significant safety risks that parents and educators must be aware of.

The platform's user-generated nature means not all content is adequately filtered, and the social functions can expose students to serious harm.

What can parents do about this?

Parental engagement and open communication are the most effective layers of defense against online risks such as these. Below are 5 handy tips on what we can do.

  1. Set Up and Verify Parental Controls
  2. Disable or Strictly Limit Chat
  3. Encourage Reporting and Blocking
  4. Keep Devices in Shared Spaces
  5. Have Open Conversations

By taking these proactive steps and maintaining an open dialogue, you can help your child  enjoy the creative aspects of Roblox while mitigating the very real safety risks present on the platform.
