What's On In 1/2

Maths Robots

Last week, our Grade 1/2 students were busy designing and building their own robots as part of our Integrated  and Maths units. Working in small groups, they planned their designs, experimented with materials, and used creative problem-solving to bring their ideas to life. Students also coded their robots by giving them step by step directional commands, such as forward, backward, left, and right, helping them practise clear instructions and sequencing

Students collaborated beautifully, sharing ideas, testing different construction methods, and making improvements along the way. Each robot had its own unique purpose and personality, and the excitement in the room as creations came together was wonderful to see.

Grandparents’ Day

Grandparents Day was filled with joy, and there was an air of excitement from the moment everyone arrived. The students and their grandparents set off on a scavenger hunt to discover the students’ favourite places to play and to learn. Along the way, they stopped to visit our chickens and admire the bright, creative murals that decorate the school grounds. The students were so proud to show off their school, sharing each special spot with big smiles and even bigger enthusiasm. Finally they ended the day with a refreshing bubble tea together.

Questacon

This term, our Grade 1/2 students have been buzzing with excitement as they attended their weekly Questacon Maths Problem-Solving session. Each week, the children eagerly look forward to exploring new puzzles and challenges. Working with a partner has made the experience even more enjoyable, as they learn to share ideas, support each other, and celebrate their successes together.

Throughout the sessions, students have embraced a range of problem-solving strategies- using trial and error, careful reasoning, and lots of creative thinking. They discovered how important it is to read instructions carefully before jumping into a task, and how teamwork can help them arrive at the best solution.

We are so proud of the persistence, enthusiasm, and collaboration the students have shown. We can’t wait to see what puzzles they tackle next!
