Year 5 & 6
Around our level
On Thursday 13th November, the Year 5 students travelled by bus to Mooroolbark College. It was called ‘All-Rounder Day’, as students were involved in a variety of activities that represented the different learning domains they may encounter in their secondary schooling. The Year 6 students also spent a fun day together. They started writing their speeches for Graduation, organised their song, helped out with some of the Year 1 students, and started making their buddy bags.
On Friday afternoons, the students have been very busy making items to sell at their bazaar. This will be held on 15th December. We are still looking for some more ideas, particularly items for boys to buy. Please let us know, or discuss it with your child, if you have any ideas.
As well as the bazaar, we are collecting items for the Salvation Army - non-perishable food and/or new toys. We don’t have any yet. If everyone was able to bring in one item, including the teachers, we would have 80 items to give to the Salvation Army. That would be amazing!

Mooroolbark was phenomenal! First we had Technology. We made paper rockets and blasted them off into the sky! Next we had Art and we played Sculptionary with playdough. After we had lunch we went to Maths, Science, and to top it off, P.E! In Maths we played this game where we had to match the fraction with the decimal and that was fun. In Science we made a foil boat that had to hold marbles. Finally, in P.E. we played this game called Golden egg, and that was the perfect thing to end the day. After all that, we went and had an assembly with all the other schools and they gave out trophies! We won the Technology and Science trophy! But overall it was an amazing experience.

When the Year 5 students went to Mooroolbark, the Year 6 got the whole BER to ourselves. We did lots of fun things like find out who we were doing for speeches and do our buddy bags. We also learnt our end of year song. Let’s just say that day was pretty fun.

When we went to Mooroolbark we had a fantastic time. Our school split into two and I was in group 1. My group went to technology with Mr. Jones. He was REALLY nice and fun. He was a great teacher and you could tell he loves his job. We built rockets that could fly into the air if you jumped on a Pepsi bottle. Then we did Sculptionary in Art and my little team won and got a lolly! We had recess and hung out with our friends and our group leader, Demi. She was really nice the whole day! Then we did Math which is where we had to match decimals, percentages, pictures and fractions. Our teacher was really nice and energetic. My team won that too. Then we did Science. After that it was lunch and we ate on the oval. For the afternoon we did P.E. We played Golden egg and I enjoyed that a lot. We did awards at the end and our school won the Technology trophy. Overall the day was really fun!

I’m a Year 6 and I was at school. We all found out who we were writing about for Graduation. I’m writing about Zoe and Imogen is writing about me. We wrote a little bit of the speeches then we listened to our Year 6 leaving song. Then the Year 1 students came to us and we did a reading activity. Overall the day was really fun.

A couple weeks ago the Year 5 students went to Mooroolbark College to see what high school is like. It was super fun. There were lots of different activities like P.E We played Golden egg. In Science we had teams and had to make a boat to see how many marbles could float on it without it sinking. In Art we did Sculptionary. Each school was split into four groups, and we took turns going up the front reading what we had to make and the first group to guess the sculpture right got a point, we also did heaps of other fun things! At the end there were trophies that were awarded to the school with the most points in each activity, and YRPS got one!! It was so exciting getting one, they were super cool! We also got a lollipop at the end, I chose Coca-cola! Delicious!

I had a fun day with all of the Year 6 students making our Buddy bags, doing Graduation speeches and choosing our Graduation song. It was good fun.

Making the Buddy bags was great and they are fun to just colour. The speeches were good because we got to remember all the memories.

It was fun at Mooroolbark College. I met a new friend, Steven. We had mini games and you could win prizes like a bounce ball and lollies. Everyone had fun and we won a trophy for the school.

I loved hanging out with my friends and doing our speeches and doing our buddy bags. l am a little bit sad that l am leaving for high school but I’m happy to make new friends. Doing the speeches made me tear up a lot, knowing that my friends and I are not going to the same school.

I loved writing our speeches! The cries, fun, and laughter we had is unforgettable. It was so much fun to reflect on the fun times we have had throughout the years. It is crazy to think that my primary school years are coming to an end.

Last week we had school swimming. It was sort of sad because it was our last one. It was very fun on Monday when we got tested and sorted into groups based on our abilities. Tuesday to Thursday we just swam and learnt new swimming skills, then on Friday we had a different lesson. We were learning to swim for when we were in danger like how to save someone who is drowning. We had to go in the pool in our clothes for situations like if a boat was sinking and we needed to jump off or swimming in dangerous waters with big waves and swimming through seaweed. The final lesson was fun and I had an amazing time at swimming.

At Mooroolbark we did 5 activities: Maths, PE, Art, Technology and Science. We got a few people to take us around the school and we did high school activities. We got a trophy for technology and I got to go and get the trophy. We all got lollipops at the end of the whole thing. And every time we did an activity and won, we got to pick a lolly.
