MGSC Orchestra

Our Headstart project for the Year 8 Music Specialist classes was to learn some carols written for full orchestra. Both the band and the strings had one session to focus just on their own music and then this week, we all came together for our first ever full orchestra rehearsal.

The Specialist Music program at Year 7 and Year 8 (previously known as Band Class) has been running at MGSC for more than 25 years, and in 2024, was expanded to include the strings – Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass. In two years, we have established a solid Strings section of more than 80 players.

In 2026, we will gradually bring the winds, percussion and strings together as we build towards forming a full symphony orchestra by 2027.

Learning an Instrument at MGSC

While many instruments offered at MGSC are fully subscribed, there are just a few vacancies remaining. If you are interested in learning an instrument in 2026, please contact Wendy Harvey or any of the instrumental teachers. Please note that all students who are enrolled in tuition are required to participate in a major ensemble for their instrument.

Music on Show

Congratulations to the Madrigal and All Stars Choirs, Senior Strings, Clarinet ensemble and Saxophone Ensembles for their performances during Orientation Day and the Stage Band for the final assembly for the year. It's great to hear so much live music around the school and to see so many students across all year levels coming together to play.
