November School Council Meeting for 2025

Last night was our final meeting for 2025.  As has become tradition, the November meeting is held at Scotsburn, giving all school councillors the opportunity to see this campus firsthand.

Once again, our School Council has worked productively throughout the year, ensuring the school is constantly looking to improve and is meeting its obligations to the school community and government.

A big thank you to Graeme Benn, who has served again as president, but also to other parent members (Debbie Rybicki, Kartya De Graff, Kelly Dalby, Kylie Bickerdike, Vanessa Vagg, Vanessa Munro, Hayley Clarke and James Jess) and staff members (Nicole Phillips, Ana Anderson, Jarrod Morgan and Narelle Sullivan).

Budgets for 2026 – Last week our Finance Committee held an extended meeting to take a good look at our cash budgets for 2026.  These were presented to School Council for approval last night.  As per usual, we struggle to make ends meet with our cash budgets and have limited control over our big-ticket items, those being cleaning, utilities, casual relief teachers and maintenance.

School Council also approved parent contributions for 2026 and hope that the vast majority of parents will elect to pay those.  This will enable us to continue to run existing programs.

Scholarship Program Applications

A reminder that 2026 Scholarship Program Applications close this Friday, November 28th. These applications are open to all students who will be in years 4, 5 and 6 in 2026.

As previously mentioned, programs on offer are Art, Master Chef, Music, Photography and STEM.

Energy Breakthrough

Congratulations to our 2025 Energy Breakthrough Team who pulled off a very successful EBT campaign from Wednesday to Friday of last week.  The teams joined hundreds of other students from schools across the state, camping on site in Maryborough and testing their skills and resilience on the track.  It’s a fabulous experience for the kids, as they are challenged in a range of ways.

Thanks to Bryan White and Barb Brokenshire for all their efforts in preparing students for the event and organising all the logistics of the campsite set up and packed up.  A big thanks to Emily Gilliland, ably assisted by Amaya Smith, who prepared and cooked up a storm to feed everyone over the three days. Finally, sincere thanks to all the parents and carers who assisted along the way and headed across to Maryborough to support the event.

EBT is a massive undertaking and we’re sure all staff, students and parent volunteers slept soundly on Friday night.  We look forward to doing it all again in 2026!

Regional Cricket

Well done to the Grade 5/6 Boys Cricket Team who represented our school at the Greater Western Region Cricket event at Victoria Park last week. The boys competed with determination in every match, steadily improving across the day and proudly securing a win in one of their games. Their excellent sportsmanship, teamwork, resilience and positive attitude were evident throughout the event. A fantastic effort!
