Dear families

NAIDOC Week 2026 marks a momentous milestone - 50 years of celebrating the rich culture, history, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’, honours the incredible legacy of those who have shaped this movement. We pay tribute to the Elders who stood strong through adversity, the organisers who created spaces for cultural expression, the artists who transformed resistance into powerful art, and the communities that continue to show up and celebrate year after year.
As NAIDOC Week traditionally coincides with the NSW winter school holidays, NSW Department of Education public schools and early learning services often choose to celebrate during Term 2 Weeks 10 and 11 or early in Term 3, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to engage meaningfully with this important event.
At Meadowbank Public School, we are proud to commemorate NAIDOC Week with a special assembly on Tuesday, 30 July, led by our student leaders. This assembly will be an occasion to reflect, celebrate, and embrace Aboriginal culture and achievement as a school community.
In addition, we are excited to welcome DeadlyEd, an Aboriginal-owned and operated cultural program, to facilitate a whole-school cultural immersion day. DeadlyEd offers a vibrant and interactive experience designed to engage all students hands-on. Throughout the day, students will participate in a rotating series of activities. A significant part of the program is the creation of our own Bush Tucker Garden!
This immersive program provides a unique opportunity for students to connect deeply with Aboriginal culture, heritage, and history in an engaging and respectful environment.
We look forward to coming together as a school community to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 and recognise the ongoing contributions and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We are pleased to inform you that the Semester One Reports for all students will be available later this week on School Bytes. These reports provide valuable insights into your child's achievements and progress throughout the first half of the year.
Tips for supporting conversations with your child
When discussing your child’s report, consider the following tips to make the conversation positive and productive:
Report types
Please note that we have different report formats tailored to various student groups:
Each report is designed to reflect your child’s individual learning experiences and progress.
Early next term, you will have the opportunity to have an interview with your child’s teacher. These sessions are a great way to discuss your child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and set goals for the remainder of the year. We encourage all parents and carers to take advantage of these meetings to support your child's learning.
To make your booking, please use School Bytes to select your preferred interview time. There will be one afternoon with extended interview times, and teachers will also be available for interviews in the mornings and after school.
To help us keep everything running smoothly, we ask that you book within the designated time slots, as our teachers have limited availability and are balancing interviews for up to 30 students per class.
Interviews are 15 minutes each and in-person. They are NOT online.
If you require an interpreter for your interview, please email the school – do not book through School Bytes. We will arrange an interview for you at a time when an interpreter is available.
If you have any questions or need assistance with your booking, please feel free to email the school. We look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child’s progress!
If you have any questions about your child’s report or need any support, please do not hesitate to contact the school via email.
As we reach the end of another busy and rewarding term, I’d like to sincerely thank all our students, families and staff for your hard work, commitment and support over the semester. It’s been fantastic to watch everyone come together and achieve so much as a community.
This term has been packed with a wide range of activities and events that really showcased the talents and enthusiasm of our students. From public speaking and debating to cross country and Spelling Bees, our students have given their best effort. We’ve also enjoyed wonderful community events like the Mother’s Day stall and NAP Morning Tea. Our Kindergarten Information session welcomed new families, and excursions to the Sydney Writers’ Festival, the Australian Museum and Art Gallery provided memorable learning experiences. We marked Neurodiversity Week with understanding and inclusion, ran engaging Reading Workshops for parents, and finished the term on a high with our colourful Colour Run.
As the term draws to a close, I wish everyone a safe, restful and happy winter holiday. Please take the chance to relax, spend time with loved ones and keep warm during the break. We look forward to seeing all our students back for Term 3, refreshed and ready for more learning and fun.
Thank you again for being part of our vibrant school community. Have a great holiday!
