Semester 1 Reports

As we approach another assessment period, I would like to take this opportunity to provide some further information regarding the new Mathematics Curriculum 2.0:

Last year, your child/s Semester 1&2 report contained a single overall achievement score within mathematics. This achievement score showed no comparison or achievement growth to their previous learning during Semester 1, however it then had the capability to show growth in learning in Semester 2. In the upcoming reports, you child/s numeracy progression point can show growth in learning compared to Semester 2 last year. The reports will also include a 5-point scale highlighting their understanding of the 5 strands (Foundation – Grade 2) or 6 strands (Grade 3 – Grade 6) within the new mathematics Victorian Curriculum 2.0. The 6 strands include:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Measurement
  • Space
  • Statistics
  • Probability (probability is not included in the Victorian curriculum until Grade 3)

This scale reflected their learning only from what was explicitly taught during this Semester. The scale is not intended to show any form of achievement growth.

The report also contained a series of ‘Typically Statements’. This is designed to highlight the skills, knowledge and learning that is involved within each strand of mathematics. It is important to note, that the typically statements are not intended to show what the student has achieved within that semester. The typically statements are not a progression point.

A reminder that the Semester 1 Reports will be published via Compass  Wednesday 24th June. If parents would like an opportunity to discuss any outcomes from the report once they have been released, you are always encouraged to contact the school.

Planning Week

Throughout the week, teachers worked collaboratively within their teams to review student achievement data, reflect on teaching and learning programs, and carefully plan the next sequence of learning for our students. This dedicated time allows staff to ensure that classroom instruction is purposeful, evidence-informed and responsive to the needs of every learner.

Planning Week is an important part of our school's commitment to delivering high-quality teaching. Teachers use this time to develop learning sequences, prepare assessments, design engaging classroom activities, and ensure consistency across year levels. Staff also review curriculum requirements and identify opportunities to enrich learning experiences through hands-on investigations, excursions, incursions and cross-curricular connections.

I would like to thank our teachers for their professionalism, care and support that they provide to all of our students. We look forward to welcoming students back next term and are excited about the great learning opportunities that will be presented in Term 3!
