Just in time for (hopefully) holidays for some families, I’m passing on a recommendation for The ABC’s Road Trip podcast. I haven’t listened to it personally, and so I recommend with that rider; however if you’re about to embark on a few hours on the road as a family, perhaps this presents an alternative to kids on screens, or simply complaining about ‘being bored’!
One I can personally recommend that we’ve had lots of fun with is Family Road Trip Trivia Podcast. Informative, engaging, with an edge of competitiveness (between my three children at least), it can make the kms go past relatively quickly!.
Regardless of where you may be going, how you may be getting there, or if you’re staying put, I wish you and your family a wonderful next fortnight, with hopefully some quiet time with no lunchboxes, sport and other commitments that hopefully release some of the day-to-day busyness.
A huge thank you to Carlo, Alana and Natalie who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver another fantastic Hampton Primary School Trivia Night.
Events such as these require an enormous amount of planning and organisation, much of which often goes unseen. From securing sponsors and sourcing prizes to coordinating logistics, setting up the venue and running the evening itself, a great deal of work went into making the event such a success.
The generosity of our sponsors, the quality of the prizes on offer and the enthusiasm of those who attended all contributed to a wonderful night for our community as well as an outstanding fundraising outcome. All up, the night raised over $21,000 which is an extraordinary amount. This funding will contribute toward the cost of the retractable seating in the new gymnasium which we have committed to.
Most importantly, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for parents in the community to come together, connect and enjoy each other's company.
Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, volunteered or contributed in any way.
Regular attendance at school is one of the most important factors influencing student learning, wellbeing and long term success. Every day at school provides valuable opportunities for students to develop academic skills, build friendships and strengthen their connection to the school community.
The Department of Education expects that students attend school every day the school is open unless there is an approved reason for absence. Families play a critical role in supporting regular attendance by ensuring children arrive at school on time each day and by notifying the school when their child is absent.
Where attendance concerns arise, schools are required to work in partnership with families to understand any barriers to attendance and provide appropriate support. This may include conversations with parents, attendance monitoring, support plans or referrals to additional services where required.
Families can expect the school to:
We recognise that there are times when students may be absent due to illness, family circumstances or other legitimate reasons, which as you can see, account for over 50% of absences. What you may also notice is that there are 12% of absences which are either unexplained or unapproved which, numerically is approximately 1200 absence entries. Our focus is always on working together with families to ensure every student is supported to attend school regularly and experience success in their learning and to ensure in all situations, we know why they are not here.

If you have concerns regarding your child's attendance or would like support, please don't hesitate to contact the school.
Christmas Carols
Whilst we undertake building works, there are many events that will look somewhat different in 2026. Carols is one of these as no stage presents some challenges. Whilst we've explored the option of portable stages, the costs are prohibitive once combined with the AV setup as well. Therefore, we will continue to host Carols this year (11th December), on our oval, and will put provisions in place to ensure visibility is as good as it can be!
Twilight Carnival
There won't be a Twilight Carnival this year, as has already been communicated, simply due to the extent of the works and available spaces.
A reminder that we are celebrating a Dress Up Day on Friday 26 June to coincide with the Socceroos' World Cup match.
Students are encouraged to dress in the colours of the team they will be supporting throughout the World Cup. We look forward to seeing plenty of colour, enthusiasm and team spirit around the school as students get behind their chosen team.
In this edition, there are some more updated policies for you to be informed of. Whilst the changes within them don’t present any day-to-day implications for families, it may be helpful from time to time to access them through our website.
Recently, School Council has reviewed and endorsed the following policies, all available to view on our school website:
Any feedback or queries regarding these, please contact Cam, Amanda or I.
Congratulations to the Bullits Fire basketball team, who recently claimed the Southern Basketball Association Under 14 Boys Premiership with a fantastic Grand Final victory.
The team has a special Hampton Primary School connection, having been formed by a group of HPS boys back in 2023 when they were in Grade 3. Now in Grade 6, many of the original players remain together, and their commitment, teamwork and perseverance have seen them steadily improve over seven seasons.
Despite moving up an age group, they finished on top of the ladder, won their semi final convincingly and then secured the premiership with a strong 29–20 Grand Final victory.
Congratulations to Jack O, Kadyn S, Tom H, Charlie T, Ben H, Declan P, Daniel R, Alex L, Marius D, Spence L as well as coaches Ben D and Ben S, along with Team Manager Sarah C on this achievement.
