Fruit of the Spirit - Joy
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5: 22 - 23
As we come towards the conclusion of another busy school term, our community has enjoyed one of the most joyful weeks of the year – Glow Week. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, laugh together, and enjoy the many gifts God has given us through our school community.
When we hear the word joy, it is easy to think of happiness. Happiness often depends on our circumstances – when things are going well, we feel happy. Joy, however, is something deeper. Joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit. It is a gift that comes from knowing that God loves us, walks with us, and remains faithful to us every day.
The joy that Paul describes in Galatians is not based on having a perfect day, achieving a goal, or avoiding challenges. Instead, it comes from the confidence that we belong to God. It grows as we spend time with Him, trust Him, and recognise His presence in our lives.
As Christians, we can find joy in knowing that God is with us in both the exciting and difficult moments. We can find joy in friendships, in learning, in serving others, and in seeing God's goodness reflected in the people around us. We can find joy in the promise that nothing can separate us from His love.
Glow Week provides a wonderful reminder that God calls us to be people who shine His light in the world. As we celebrate together, may our joy be more than excitement and fun. May it be the deep and lasting joy that comes from walking with Jesus and knowing that He walks with us.
I encourage each of us to pause and give thanks for the many blessings we have received. May God continue to grow the fruit of joy within our hearts so that we may share His light, hope, and love with others.
Prayer
Loving God, thank You for the gift of joy. Help us to find our joy in You and to trust Your presence in every season of life. As we celebrate Glow Week and the end of term, fill our hearts with gratitude, laughter, and hope. May we shine Your light in our homes, classrooms, and community. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Blessings!
