ICAS Competitions
ICAS is a globally recognised academic competition that gives students the opportunity to discover what they are capable of.
It offers a distinctive academic experience that goes beyond everyday classroom learning, with questions designed to stretch students and engage them in new ways.
St Pius X College is offering students in Years 5 an opportunity to compete in the 2026 ICAS Competitions in Writing, English, Maths and Science.
Please see the attached letter for more information on the competitions.

Visual Arts
Last week, on Friday, the Year 12 Visual Art students were given the opportunity to head into the city to witness Tony Albert’s ‘Not A Souvenir’ exhibition at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art). The students have been studying Tony Albert since the end of their preliminary course, and they were thrilled to finally witness works they have been studying for so long in person. Thank you, Ms Doyle, for giving the students the opportunity. They are eager to witness more works from artists they are studying.
Tony Albert (Girramay, Kuku Yalanji, Yidindji peoples) is one of Australia's most fearless and influential contemporary artists. His dynamic practice includes sculpture, photography, installation, painting and assemblage. Grounded in a longstanding practice of collecting found material, Albert reclaims popular images of Aboriginal Australia with wit, beauty and force. His assemblages of ‘Aboriginalia’ transform the visual language of colonisation, turning objects of prejudice into symbols of resistance, resilience and pride. MCA

Chinese Club – Tea Tasting Experience
Last Thursday, Chinese Club enjoyed a traditional Chinese tea tasting experience. Students sampled two popular teas - Oolong Tea and Jasmine Tea - and learned the proper way to pour and serve tea. We also discovered the meaning behind the custom of tapping fingers on the table to thank the person pouring tea. This tradition dates back to a story about an Emperor of China who disguised himself as a commoner and served tea to his companions. Unable to bow publicly without revealing the emperor’s identity, they tapped their fingers on the table as a silent gesture of gratitude - a custom that continues today.
Chinese club will resume in Term 3, Week 2, in Room A4 at recess.

Maths Drop-In
It has been fantastic to see such a strong turnout at Maths Drop-In over the past few weeks. With several assessment tasks taking place across different year groups, students have demonstrated a high level of commitment to their learning by attending regularly to seek clarification, consolidate their understanding, and further develop their mathematical skills.
Equally encouraging has been the supportive atmosphere created by the students, who have worked collaboratively and assisted one another in preparing for their assessments. A special mention should go to the Year 10 & Year 11 cohort, whose enthusiasm and dedication were evident through their excellent attendance at the additional Wednesday support session. Their willingness to invest extra time and effort into their studies reflects a positive attitude towards learning and a strong commitment to achieving their personal best.
