Youth in Council

Last Friday we held our second Youth in Council meeting with students from Mercy College. The afternoon was facilitated by Fr David and the group heard from Mr Balboa and Mr Jurgutis (Mercy College) on the topic 'Peace in a troubled world.' Students were encouraged to think of ways they can create peace in their own lives.

The discussion and sharing was rich and table talk parameters allowed all at the table to have their voices heard. The afternoon was one of discussion, listening, and a shared afternoon tea and opened the door for further discussions and interactions with the students at Mercy College which always generates new connections and stronger partnership.

Youth Mass

Thank you to the students who once again joined us for Mass on Sunday night. It is always wonderful to see the Mass being led by the younger members of the community.

All students are welcome to join us for Youth Mass which is held on Sunday Nights at Our Lady of Dolours at 5:30 pm. We host these in Weeks 4 and 8 each Term.

Red Dirt Meeting

The students attending the Red Dirt Immersion this holiday period had the opportunity to meet and work with the students from Christian Brothers High School Lewisham who will be travelling with us. We have formed a wonderful relationship over the years and travel to Coonabarrabran with students in their Aboriginal Studies class as well as two staff members.

The afternoon allowed for games, introductions, information about visiting Aboriginal lands, and setting up expectations. The group were excited and are looking forward to our upcoming adventure.  They cannot wait to share their stories upon return to school next term.

World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day falls each year on 20 June and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. It is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognise their resilience in rebuilding their lives. Three in every four refugees or people displaced by conflict live in countries facing high-to-extreme exposure to climate-related hazards, compounding the risks faced by people already forced to flee. Refugees are among the most vulnerable people in the world. The 1951 UN Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol help protect them. They are the only global legal instruments explicitly covering the most important aspects of a refugee’s life. According to their provisions, refugees deserve, as a minimum, the same standards of treatment enjoyed by other foreign nationals in a given country and, in many cases, the same treatment as nationals.

Movie Night

This year our Year 12 Mission and Identity Leaders are hosting a Movie Night for students in Years 9-12. Information is below and more details will be sent out shortly.

We look forward to a great night of fun, community, and raising money for a good cause!

Winter Appeal

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,

you did for me.” Matthew 25:40.

We continue to receive your generous donations of food and winter woollies until the end of Term. Please continue to bring donations to D8 for collation and distribution to St Vincent de Paul and Jesuit Refugee Services.

We recognise that the rising cost of living is affecting many households, and that every family’s circumstances are different. For those who are able to contribute, even one practical item can make a meaningful difference when combined with the generosity of our wider College community.

Suggested donations include:

  • Non-perishable food such as rice, canned beans, fish and fruit

  • UHT milk and pantry staples

  • Toiletries and men’s personal-care items

  • Warm clothing in good condition

We thank you in advance for your ongoing support of our social outreach programs.
