Principals Report

Dear parents, carers and friends of WSPS,

Well, we are nearly at the halfway point of the school year! Time has flown by and this term has been full of exciting opportunities and activities.

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend our whole school assembly on Monday. It was very special to see our Rock choir perform. Well done to our recipients of our Value Awards and a shout out to Steve who came in on Monday to support the rock choir performance.

Holiday Work

Over the holidays we have a small landscaping project being completed. Make sure to look out for any differences when you return in two weeks.

Reports - Today

The Semester 1 student academic learning reports will be distributed via Compass today. These achievement reports provide families with a summary of your child's achievement and growth against the Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards. At Wales Street Primary School, teachers use multiple sources of evidence to make consistent and informed judgements about student progress, with moderation processes supporting a shared and accurate understanding of curriculum standards across the school.

The reports will continue to provide important information about your child's learning achievement and progress. However, full descriptive comments may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union. Other aspects have also been streamlined ensuring that teacher time is devoted to accurately providing progression points rather than long written comments that use statements from the curriculum content descriptors.

Term 3 Curriculum Day

Friday 14 of August is our next Curriculum Day. Students will not be required to attend school on this day.

This Curriculum Day will provide an important opportunity for our staff to continue developing their knowledge and understanding of effective numeracy teaching & learning. Through collaborative professional learning, teachers will further refine their understanding of evidence-based teaching practices, curriculum planning, and responsive approaches that support every student to achieve success.

Investing time in high-quality professional learning strengthens our collective capacity as educators and ensures we continue to provide engaging, effective, and responsive learning experiences for all students.

We thank families for your support and look forward to sharing more about our ongoing work in this area throughout the year.

We can also confirm that TheirCare will run a full day program on Friday 14 August from 7:00 am to 6.00 pm.

World Cup Fever has hit WSPS!

World Cup fever has certainly hit our school, with excitement building across classrooms and the playground! As a proudly multicultural community, it has been wonderful to see staff and students sharing their passion for different teams, engaging in friendly rivalries, and celebrating their cultural connections to countries around the world. Most importantly, it has been fantastic to see everyone come together in support of Australia, demonstrating respect, inclusion, and community spirit.

Thank You-Enjoy your holidays

Wow – we made it through to the end of a long and challenging term. Looking at our staff and students we only just made it and the holidays have come at the perfect time.

I hope that all our families get some time together to enjoy life away from the school routines and can come back refreshed for Term 3!

Finally, thank you for your continuous support of our school. I am so grateful for the work of our dedicated staff, the engagement of our students each day and the home school partnership our school has built over such an extended period of time. Working in our school each day is an absolute privilege because I see so many good things happening, and our students always have smiles on their faces.

Wales Street is a GREAT place to be!
