Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
The school term concludes next, Friday 26th June, at 2.30pm!
This week has seen another fabulous week of curiosity and engagement in learning across our school. Many year levels are busily working to compete the learning they are going to share at the Open Family Afternoon sessions next week!
We hope that you are able to come along and see your child's learning presented, however, if not, please assure your child that other families attending, staff as well as Helen, Monique and myself will be popping into the classes to see all the great work!
Foundation- Wednesday 24th June, 2.40-3.10pm
Year 1- Wednesday 24th June, 3.00-3.20pm
Year 2- Thursday 25th June, 2.45-3.15pm
Year 3- Wednesday 24th June, 2.40-3.10pm
Year 4- Thursday 25th June, 2.40-3.10pm
Active to School
It has been great to see so many students being active on their way to school and ensuring they walk, bike ride or scoot to school.
The ‘Active to School’ in Banyule program encourages and supports schools,
students, parents and families to find healthy active ways to travel to and from school. Whether it is the entire route or just part-way, every bit of active travel helps
to improve our environment and our health.
Please remember that wearing a helmet is strictly mandatory in Australia for all riders, so insist your child wears theirs!
Under Victorian road rules, the same helmet requirements apply to bicycles, skateboards, and scooters (both electric and non-electric).
With thanks to Sue for her coordination, the bike shed will next week be ready to house students bikes and scooters which will be a more safe option than having to leave them outside and around the shed. If there is no more space inside the shed, we ask that students carefully and neatly leave their bike/scooter against the long edge of the bike shed so as not to interfere with the entrance gate.
Thank you and happy and safe biking and scooting to school everyone!
Baby news
We are very happy to share the lovely news from our Year 4 teacher, Chris Roberts and his wife Rachael, that they have welcomed a baby girl into their family.
Adeline Anne Roberts was born on Tuesday 16th June, 4.23kg.
We send our congratulations to Chris and Rachael as they begin their journey into parenthood. Adeline looks perfectly gorgeous.
3 way conferences
Early next term we will be providing opportunities for students, parents and teachers to meet and discuss student learning; achievement and progress as well as areas for future development and focus. A 10 minute appointment will be able to be booked on either Tuesday 21st July between 3.40-7.00pm or Thursday 23rd July between 3.40-5.30pm.
Bookings will open on Thursday 25th June at 5.00pm and will close Monday 20th July at 5.00pm.
These conference times are a valuable opportunity to foster the positive partnership between school and home. We look forward to celebrating all the studnets' learning and achivements.
What makes a good family game?
There are three things required, in order for a good family game:
It can't require equipment. The moment a game needs a board, dice, cards or a printout, it's getting played twice and then forgotten. Family routines fail at the storage cupboard. The good ones live in your head and your hands.
It can't require a winner. Competitive games between a 12-year-old and a 6-year-old end in tears or boredom for one of them. The best family games are cooperative or "everyone shares."
It needs an in-built reason to laugh. Laughter is the single best signal that connection is happening. If a game has even a small built-in moment of "this is going to look ridiculous," it'll do the job.
Try this one...The Happiness Alphabet
Take turns naming something that makes you happy, starting with A. "Apples." "Bananas." "Cats." You're building a list together. Easy for tiny kids, surprisingly hard by the time you hit Q. Total time: about five minutes if you make it to Z.

SAC Coordinator
We are still looking to recruit a new SAC coordinator.
If you know someone who might be interested, please get them to give me a call at school on 9457 2259 or email naomi.ivers@education.vic.gov.au to find out more!
We are so grateful and appreciative to Astrid and all the SAC staff for the work they do to ensure the smooth running of our before and aftercare program. We are so lucky to have such a fabulous team.
Slow Cookers wanted
With the colder mornings now upon us Breakfast club is looking for donations of a few slow cookers to enable warmer options.
If you have one lying around that you would like to re home or gift the school, it would be truly appreciated.
Please drop it off at the front office.
Foundation 2027 Enrolments
Do you have a child starting school in 2027?
We are accepting enrolments now. Hard copy enrolment forms can be found in the office foyer, or on our website.
Enrolments will close on Friday 31 July 2026.
If you are enrolling the sibling of a student at our school, and both children will be attending our school at the same time, your child is prioritised for a place at our school as per the department’s Placement Policy. For more information, please read about when and how to enrol your child in Prep at vic.gov.au/enrolling-foundation-prep.
Is your family up for a 60 Second Challenge?
