Winter Wellbeing and School Holiday Activities

Dear Families,

As we head into the winter holidays, colder weather and shorter days can make it tempting to spend more time indoors. While some screen time can be a fun way to relax, it is important that it doesn't become the default activity for our children.

The holidays provide many opportunities for families to connect, stay active and keep minds engaged, even when the weather is wet and chilly. Simple activities such as board games, baking, reading together, visiting the library, completing craft projects, building with construction toys, going for a nature walk between rain showers, or exploring local museums and community events can all support children's wellbeing and development.

Physical activity remains important during winter and helps boost mood, energy levels and overall health. Whether it's a trip to the local pool, an indoor sports activity, dancing at home, or a family walk, finding ways to keep moving can make a big difference.

This holiday break, we encourage families to aim for a healthy balance between screen-based activities and real-world experiences. Creating opportunities for connection, creativity and movement will help children return to school refreshed, engaged and ready for a successful start to the new term.

La Trobe University has kindly provided a range of useful resources for parents and carers, offering practical ideas to support children's wellbeing and engagement throughout the winter holidays. https://www.latrobe.edu.au/news/announcements/2024/six-fun-ways-to-keep-your-kids-active-during-the-winter-months

Families can use the 10 indoor activities for a rainy day as a starting list.

Wishing everyone a safe, warm and happy winter break.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

The weekly PBL rule is drawn from our Behaviour Matrix. Each week our children focus on a whole school rule that meets our five school expectations.

            This week’s PBL focus is:

            We are LEARNERS  (online)

We are learning to use technology for school work and stay on task.
