JPSSA Interschool Cross Country

Yesterday, Thursday 20 June, Aquinas College hosted the JPSSA Cross Country Carnival. We extend heartfelt congratulations to all the boys who represented the College with exemplary sportsmanship and determination throughout the event.

It was a day filled with achievements, as many of our team members set personal bests, showcasing their unwavering dedication and hard work.

Noteworthy performances included Leo Machado-Stehlik placing 3rd in the Year Five 2km race and Mitch Borman securing 5th place in the Year Six 2.5km race.

In the overall standings, Hale School claimed the JPSSA interschool event trophy, while Trinity’s senior team achieved an impressive 4th place in the All-Schools event.

A special acknowledgment goes to Mr Thompson for his efforts in preparing our students for this challenging interschool competition.

Extra-Curricular Club Focus - Camp Craft

I am excited to announce that applications for Camp Craft are now open for Term 3! This term-long program offers hands-on learning in outdoor skills and teamwork. Participants in Camp Craft will:

  • Learn to set up and pack away a Three-Man tent, gaining insights into tent features and setup techniques.
  • Practice setting and lighting fires, cooking simple meals such as 2-minute noodles, and acquire knowledge about UHF communications.

The program begins early in Term Three. Application forms can be collected from the Year 6 Green classroom and should be returned to: Mr James Quin at quin.james@trinity.wa.edu.au.

Don't miss this opportunity for your son to develop valuable outdoor skills in a supportive environment. We look forward to welcoming participants to Camp Craft!

Student Achievements - Lucas Cowton

We are excited to share some wonderful news from the recent Primary School Golf Championship at Melville Glades Golf Club. Lucas Cowton from 6 Green had an exceptional day, showcasing his skills and sportsmanship in a thrilling competition.

Competing against 26 other children, Lucas demonstrated outstanding talent and determination. We are proud to announce that he emerged victorious, claiming the overall Stableford prize with an impressive 21 points!

Congratulations to Lucas for his outstanding performance! Let's continue to support and encourage all our students as they pursue their passions and excel in their endeavours.

JVE VOCES8 Workshop

The Junior Vocal Ensemble had an exciting opportunity to attend a workshop led by the renowned acapella choir "Voces8," currently touring from England. During the engaging two-hour session, the boys had the chance to ask questions to the choir members. Following this, they enjoyed learning various vocal warm-ups and songs, which proved to be both enjoyable and inspiring.

The boys were truly impressed by the choir's skill and technique, and this experience will hopefully encourage them to strive for excellence in their own singing endeavours. Special thanks to Dr Braham for inviting the boys to take part in this memorable workshop.

Junior School Team Excels in Ethics Olympiad

On Wednesday, June 19th, our Junior School team demonstrated their intellectual prowess in the Ethics Olympiad, a highlight of their GATE programme activities. Despite the competition being held via Zoom with participation from over 30 schools across Australia and New Zealand, our students enthusiastically embraced the challenge with critical thinking. Throughout the event, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on various ethical dilemmas:

  • Exploring the rights of individuals and the ethics of limiting those rights.
  • Contemplating the ethics of deception and the circumstances under which lying might be justified.
  • Reflecting on the ethical dimensions of ending friendships and the considerations involved.
  • Investigating how our perspectives shape our wants and needs, and what influences these perspectives.
  • Discussing the distinction between inspiration and appropriation in the context of artwork.
  • Examining the threshold of originality in art and what constitutes genuine innovation.

Despite a slow start, our boys showed remarkable improvement with each round, culminating in an honourable mention for their outstanding performance across three rounds of rigorous debate and analysis.

The Community of Inquiry (COI) approach to ethics, which our students have embraced this semester, has proven instrumental in fostering their critical thinking and ethical reasoning skills.

Let's continue to support and encourage our students as they excel academically and in their personal growth and development. Congratulations to:

  • Patrick Clarke
  • David Berry
  • James Leslie
  • Cassius McGovern
  • Oscar Brockett
  • Aiden Luo

These students have exemplified dedication and excellence in the Ethics Olympiad, showcasing the values of our school community.

Reports

It has been a privilege to read over the Semester 1 reports for the Junior School over these last few weeks. All students have worked extremely hard and should be proud of the progress they have made. These reports provide a snapshot of how your son is progressing across all learning areas. It is to be read in conjunction with parent interview discussions, assessments sent home over the semester and all the other events your son has participated in over the semester.

I encourage you to sit and read through this report with your son, discuss goals for next semester and celebrate success, no matter what success looks like for each different individual.

Reports are available to parents via SEQTA Engage, our parent portal, today. Should you encounter any difficulties logging in, please contact the IT Help Desk at 9219 1161.
