2024 Student Attitudes to School Survey

JSA Accessible Short-Scale Version

In valuing student voice as a means to improving student engagementwellbeing and quality instruction, we conduct the Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) to find out what our students inherently think of your school.

The AtoSS  is conducted annually in Term 2 for all students in Years 4 to 12 (Rooms 10-27) are invited to participate. The year, the survey comprises of 23 questions in full.

Week 8 AToSS progress - Only 73 students (or 49%) of our Room 10-27 students have completed this survey so far.

The assessment window is open until this Friday, 14th June.

Only 3 teaching days to go!

The 2024 AtoSS questions has been adapted in order to enable more students at JSA to better understand the questions being asked, and to provide a functionally appropriate way for students to express their authentic responses.

There are two versions of the survey which includes:

SAtSS Version #1

  • Questioning is not provided with any additional student supports
  • Responses comprise of a 5-point scale

SAtSS Short Scale Version #2  - (JSA's preference)

  • suitable for students with a recognised cognitive impairment
  • Reduced language
  • Responses that are supported with matching visuals
  • Responses comprise of only a 3-point scale

For each question in the Short Scale version, the wording has been adapted to include more concrete concepts which may be more familiar to students who are working and communicating at Levels A-D of the Victorian Curriculum. Those concepts are represented by familiar visuals.
