Prep Bedtime Stories

Helen Reid, Prep Team Leader

On an icy cold Wednesday night, over 90 Preps excitedly came back to school dressed warmly in their PJs and slippers for the annual Bedtime Stories evening. Preps and parents scattered around the room reading stories together, making a cute owl mask and chatting with others. We gathered together to sing the beautiful 'Night Song' by Colin Buchanan for the parents.

This song reminds us of how God is with us all through the day and the night. Mrs Vaughan and Mrs Fernihough joined us in their pyjamas too, and read us Owl Babies

At the end of the evening the Preps had milk and a biscuit before one final story and bedtime prayer. The Prep team hope that parents and children alike were inspired to continue reading together at home.

Year 6 Camp

Courtney Ayala, Year 6 Camp Coordinator

What an unforgettable Year 6 camp we had! With beautiful blue skies and sunshine, students were able to experience all that the Phillip Island Adventure Resort had to offer!

Particular highlights were activities on the wild side such as the giant swing, flying fox, and crate climb. We also enjoyed making bush pancakes, canoeing, and exploring Amaze N' Things. It was wonderful to see our students demonstrating a growth mindset and enthusiastically participating in activities, showing courage and kindness in their actions.

During our Hollywood-themed dress-up afternoon, we saw many famous stars walk the red carpet. Among the celebrities were Barbie, Men in Black, and a host of different Star Wars and Disney characters. The annual talent show that followed was a spectacular display of the diverse gifts and talents with which the Lord has blessed our Year 6 students. From singing to acting and other unique performances, each act was a testament to their creativity and skill.

The electrifying Karaoke and Disco night proved to be another huge hit. Students enthusiastically took the stage, singing their hearts out, making it the perfect way to conclude the camp experience.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the students, staff, and our incredible parent helpers - with their support it was such a smooth and positive week. We praise the Lord for such a special camp experience!

Year 5 Music Excursion

Dave Bonfa, Music Teacher

Last Friday, the Year 5 students embarked on an enriching excursion to the heart of Melbourne to attend a performance by the esteemed Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall. Blessed with sunshine, we revelled in the splendour of our vibrant city. This excursion proved to be an unforgettable experience, as our students and teachers were treated to a captivating rendition of "The Peasant Prince".

Bringing to life the enchanting narrative of Li Cunxin's acclaimed memoir, "Mao’s Last Dancer", this performance eloquently intertwined music and storytelling, tracing Li's inspiring journey from childhood to becoming one of the world's preeminent ballet dancers. Composed by Katy Abbott, the orchestral arrangements evoked poignant imagery, complemented by the illustrations from the accompanying picture book.

During the performance, students were introduced to the diverse sections of the orchestra, discerning the distinct timbres and textures of each musical family, including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Students have explored this topic in their Music class over the past term.

Following the concert, we convened for a delightful lunch and recreational activities at Birrarung Marr park, adjacent to Federation Square, fostering camaraderie and furthering our appreciation for Melbourne's cultural offerings.

A heartfelt expression of gratitude extends to our parent and teacher helpers. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to experience the beautiful culture and music in our city. We give thanks to God for keeping us safe and having such a wonderful experience.
