Wow! We are at the end of another term. The past fortnight has been busy with assessments and finishing up our units in all subjects. The 4/5/6 students have really impressed me with their engagement during our Yahoo writing. Therefore, I feel I should share some of their amazing work with you. The task was to convince their audience that the Yahoo is either a misunderstood and lonely creature or that he is terrifying and we should fear him.
The Mysterious Yahoo is a bloodthirsty, terrifying creature. He looks like a monster. Hunting dogs are even frightened of him. He only comes out at night.
The Yahoo is a terrifying creature that has had many encounters with dogs and "timbergetters" over the years. The Yahoo is over 9.5 feet tall and has hands big enough to crush a skull. That's why he is a terrifying creature.
The hunters' dogs hunted everything, but one day the hunters put their dogs in the forest, and the dogs came out with their tails between their legs, which means there was something big in the forest that scared them. Whatever mysterious creature lives in the forest was scary enough to frighten dogs that hunted everything. If hunting dogs are scared of him, so should we.
The mysterious creature only comes out at night because during the day it won't be as scary. Plus, in the day, the mysterious creature will not show himself. Lots of people are scared of the things that come out at night. We can't fully see at night, so this is scary.
This is why I think the mysterious Yahoo creature is a monster. Anything with hands that can crush our skulls and can scare hunting dogs should be feared.

This is my documentary of why the elusive “Yahoo” is a bloodthirsty apex predator. I will cover all the facts, and by the end, you will wholeheartedly believe me.
The “ten-foot creature” (2019, Yahoo Creek), as many articles describe the sheer size of this monstrous being, obviously dominates the ecosystem. Firstly, the “Yowie,” as it’s sometimes known, shares many characteristics with humans. Humans are the most efficient hunters since megafauna roamed the Earth, so it is reasonable to conclude that a beast of this anatomy would be a killing machine.
“But there are no reported deaths or even injuries,” you might ask. Well, ponder this: it would be unlikely to survive an ambush from this creature. Many reports state that it has human-like hands which could make weapons… (let that sink in)... There are reports of it having immense strength, able to rip up trees, roots and all, overturn logs, and hurl stones. In fact, an encounter with one of these unusual animals clearly states that one threw a stone with pinpoint accuracy, landing in a bushranger’s fire.
This monster has sought human attention for hundreds of years. There are more reports of this creature than the “yeti” or even “bigfoot.” This creature is probably the most publicity-hungry, and this means that it’s used to us, meaning it’s not afraid to interact in our everyday lives.
This has been my documentary of why “Yahoo” is a territorial, bloodthirsty, publicity-seeking monster, and I am certain you one hundred percent agree with me.

The Yahoo is a misunderstood and lonely creature. You don't know anything about him, so how do you know he's scary? You don't know about him. He doesn't speak English, and he is alone in the woods at night.
You don’t know about him, so you only see a hint of the creature. "To my people, he is a spiritual figure" (Yahoo Creek, 2019). That is why the Yahoo is misunderstood—because no one knows anything about him, making him a lonely and misunderstood creature.
He doesn’t speak English, so you don't know what he is saying. He could still be nice. They have only heard strange noises, so they don't know if he is scary or not, and you shouldn’t say anything about him. Because he doesn't know what you are saying and he does not speak English, he is misunderstood.
He is all alone in the woods at night, so you don’t know if he is doing scary things or not. He could be crying because he is all alone. You say he is doing weird things, but you don't know about him. He could be sad and looking for friends. That is why he is misunderstood and lonely.
You should not judge him because you don't know about him. He doesn't speak English, and he is always alone at night. These are all reasons why I know he is a lonely and misunderstood creature!

The Yahoo is a misunderstood mythical creature. He is seen as terrifying, but he doesn't speak English, so we cannot understand him. In all encounters, he is always alone, and no one knows what his true intentions are.
This completely misunderstood creature may just be looking to communicate with us. An Aboriginal elder said, “To my people, he is a spiritual figure” (Yahoo Creek, 2019). This is evidence that the Yahoo is misunderstood.
This mysterious creature doesn't speak English. How are we meant to understand him? He only moans, groans, and cries. This is why we shouldn't say the Yahoo is a scary creature when we don't know if he's trying to tell us something.
I believe that the Yahoo is not dangerous. There's no proof that the Yahoo has ever harmed a human. In the book Yahoo Creek, the Yahoo is not mentioned as harming anyone. None of the articles state that the Yahoo harms anyone; they just call him a monster. That’s why the Yahoo is not dangerous.
In my opinion, the Yahoo is a mysterious, misunderstood creature. He isn’t harmful and doesn't speak English. This is why the Yahoo is a misunderstood, lonely creature.

Stage 3 Maths
We have spent the last two weeks learning about the measure of length, the units of measurement and the importance of careful conversions. Well done Arley for being our most accurate estimator of distance; for getting within 3cm of the target amount!
We experienced how far a kilometre is (8 metres short of 3 laps of the playground), and discovered that shapes with the same area can have different perimeters.
It was a fun moment to take time out of measuring and help the Kindergarten students learn about time; what great collaboration of learning across grades!
