Reading & Writing
We have had some amazing progress this semester. Please continue to read and write over the holidays! Next term, we are learning all about narratives.
Maths
Here are some things that you can practise over the holidays for Term 3!
Kindergarten
- Go on a number hunt together and discover places where numbers are used such as a clock, television, computer keyboard, calendar, telephones or car licence plates
- Count with your child the number of buttons as you do up a cardigan or shirt.
- Encourage your child to count the number of pegs used to hang out the washing.
- Count the number of steps from the front door to the letterbox.
- Count the number of eggs in a carton, and again after some have been removed.
- Count the number of times you and your child can throw a ball to each other without dropping it.
- Read and talk about stories and rhymes that use numbers.
- Sing songs and nursery rhymes that include numbers such as Five Little Ducks and Baa Baa Black Sheep.
- Have your child count as far as they are able to go and then encourage them to join you while you continue counting.
Year 1
You can help your Year 1 child at home by:
- using groups to solve multiplication problems.
- playing skip counting games or taking turns to count by 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s
- using 5c, 10c or $2 coins to skip count money
- drawing a skip counting hopscotch path with chalk. Use the hopscotch path in reverse to skip count backwards.
- Using sticky dots, textas, M&Ms, playdough or Lego to make groups and getting children to write the repeated addition facts to match.
- Use paddle pop sticks to create groups and add them together to multiply and find your answer.
- Make arrays with items around the house. Challenge yourselves to see who can make the arrays in the fastest time!
Science in Term 3
Next term, we are learning all about light and sound. We will be working towards designing and creating an instrument. If possible, please start to collect materials at home (such as empty bottles, straws, tissue boxes, etc.) to bring in towards the end of next term!
Thanks for a great Term 2!
