Meet the College Captains - Cranboure Campus
Tristan Estrada, College Liturgy Captain - Cranbourne Campus
What do you see as your role as a leader?
I believe that my role as a leader is to be someone that leads by example and is a friend to all. I believe that my role involves me supporting and uplifting the St Peter’s community by working hard to make sure that everyone at school feels like they belong. It’s about being a good listener by listening to the people around you for their concerns and needs but it’s also about putting my own initiatives into it and having a duty to uphold our school ROCKS by doing what I believe the school needs as a student of St Peter’s.
What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?
One of the positives of being a student at St. Peter’s College is that I always feel positive when I’m at school. St Peter’s goes beyond being a place that students learn and teachers teach, its a community that has created a positive environment for me to grow. I could’ve ended up as a totally different person than who I am now if St Peter’s College hadn’t accepted me and made me feel like I belong.
What are your goals as Captain in 2024?
My goals as Liturgy Captain in 2024 is to help our community grow in faith and furthermore grow as people. Faith is a big part of anyone’s life even if they aren’t religious, faith is having trust that things will work out and the bible teaches how to gain that faith and deepen your relationship with it. I believe that I can share my faith with the community in hopes that we can learn from it together.
2024 College Theme
“Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly (Mic 6:8)
How will you live this statement through your leadership role?
When I read this statement I think about the context that the scripture is from. In this scripture God isn’t happy with his people, and the people want to make it up to him by making a sacrifice of their offerings, but God doesn’t want the offerings, he simply asks them to “Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly”. So through my role I will live out what God has asked of me, not by doing huge acts because that’s what someone told me to, but by doing the right things for the school through kindness and humility.

What do you see as your role as a leader?
I see my role as a leader to be one that displays authenticity and intent. Beyond the speeches and title I am nothing more than an individual with the motivation to create and foster, which in itself is a gift. I view my leadership as a journey by someone who is persistent, resilient, genuine and passionate. Such qualities allow me to collaborate with those around me, to voice the collective concerns and ideas of those within the College community.
What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?
The sense of community present on campus, which has been with me since Year 7. Our College possesses an incredibly rich culture which I am yet to see replicated in any other school. Whether it be through the sense of pride, exemplified by the competitiveness of each House and the willingness of participation in school events such as the College Musical or Lip Sync and Dance Battles, the buzz of College life is extremely uplifting.
What are your goals as Captain in 2024?
My goal as Liturgy Captain is to not only enhance the open-mindedness on Campus towards the fostering of different faiths as a collective, as we are incredibly blessed to have such a diverse range of beliefs and cultures, but also to initiate more engaging discussions and activities surrounding the liturgical life of the College.
2024 College Theme
“Do justice, love kindness and walk humbly (Mic 6:8)
How will you live this statement through your leadership role?
Alongside the rest of the Student Executive I will strive to present myself in not only a manner which is approachable but also purposeful. Our College Theme itself speaks volumes about the power of humility and being someone of a gentle nature. However, it also highlights the importance of doing. Through my role as Liturgy Captain I intend to embrace every aspect of our College Theme as I walk around campus so that there is a mutual feeling of respect and embracing of one another's beliefs and morals within our College community.
From the Archives
In 2001, one of the victims of the World Trade Centre tragedy was Peter Gyulavary, the twin brother of former teacher, Paul Gyulavary. St. Peter’s College commemorated the passing of Peter Gyulavary by planting a pear tree. The homonyms pear and pair are significant. In season, the original tree bears much fruit and can be viewed as you enter the Breen and Florence Williams buildings. Sometime later, Paul Gyulavary felt that the tree had become intrusive. Rather than have it removed, a second pear tree was planted further into the gardens between the St. Peter’s Chapel and the Florence Williams building. There are now a pair of pear trees in the college grounds. An interesting side point is that the tree and the connection with 9/11 was the subject of a Compass episode on ABC TV.
