From the Principal

Russell Lee (Acting)

As we wrap up the first term of the year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many events and achievements that have taken place at our College.

Thanks to all that engaged in the recent Parent-Teacher-Student Interviews. This is a great opportunity for parents/carers to meet with teachers and discuss their child's progress. The buzz on the day was great and it was amazing to hear of the growth, achievement, and next steps for students in their learning.

We had our new Cricket Net Grand Opening last week. The Sub-School, Connectedness, Engagement, Sport, House Culture, and supporting staff put on an incredible event for students. We had a visit from former Principal, Meagan Cook, to cut the ribbon, alongside student drivers in Year 8, Aayan and Dev. Amongst the activities, students (and staff) were able to face elite level bowling from Cricket Victoria representatives, Poppy Gardner and Liv Henry.

Our student wellbeing-leaders engaged in the School of Play training. The mission here is simple; nurturing autonomous health and wellbeing skills in individuals of all ages. This training will elevate students to take greater ownership of their own and lead others' wellbeing. We look forward to seeing the student-led initiatives in this space.

Our Year 7 and Outdoor Ed camps return at the end of the last week, with students enjoying a range of outdoor activities and team-building exercises. These camps provide a valuable opportunity for our students to develop their leadership skills, make new friends and create lasting memories.

Those Year 7 students that did not attend camp offsite engaged in a vibrant alternate program with the same learning objectives. Culminating in a colour run, students have enjoyed a range of activities, workshops, and challenges. Thanks to the Sub-School and Engagement Team for your work with our newest students.

Our Year 7 and 9 students recently completed NAPLAN testing, and I commend them on their hard work and dedication. These tests can be stressful, but our students demonstrated a positive attitude and a commitment to achieving their best. The data from NAPLAN supports our staff to cater their teaching to the learning needs of each individual.

Our College Production rehearsals are well underway, and our students are working tirelessly to bring High School Musical to life on stage. I cannot wait to see the final product, and I encourage all our families to come and support our talented performers.

We have faced some staffing challenges this term, but I am proud of how our school community has come together to overcome these obstacles. We have worked hard to ensure that our students' education and wellbeing remain our top priority. We have been successful with appointment some amazing staff to join the CESC community for term 2, and we look forward to introducing them to students.

It has been an honour and privilege to be the Principal of CESC for term 1. At this time, I am pleased to remain in the role for the start of term 2. As we look forward to the next term, I am excited about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. I wish you all a happy and restful break, and I look forward to seeing you back at school soon.

Sincerely,

Russell Lee
