Learner Profile - Caring

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. One of the attributes of the Learner Profile is Caring. Caring learners show empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. Many of our students have been exploring the learner profile attribute of caring this term through the question – what does it mean to be caring?

In Prep, we teach students to be caring learners. This week, we focused on the high-five strategy to respond to unkind behaviour. Students sang and role-played strategies such as 'talk friendly' and 'walk away'. They also traced their hands and drew or wrote a high-five strategy on how to be caring inside. This helps them build positive and respectful relationships within the community.

Year 9 students have started their community projects, marking a significant milestone and the culmination of their MYP journey. In the process of identifying needs within their communities, our Year 9s exemplify the caring attribute by demonstrating empathy, compassion, and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact. These community projects not only showcase the students' academic and personal growth but also emphasize the practical application of the values instilled through the IB program. We are proud of our Year 9s for embracing this opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their communities and look forward to witnessing the positive and lasting effects of their endeavours.
