Opportunities for Getting Involved

The Secondary Years students have been busy over the past few weeks getting involved in the many goings on around the College. Students have completed various assessments to this point whilst also participating in various other activities. Aside from the Year 7 & 8 camps, Year 12 GG Cup, and Year 9 Rite Journey, students have embraced various sporting and cultural activities. Our Pastoral Care programs have seen Year 10s engaging in study skills education, while the Year 11s participated in a Fit-2-Drive workshop.

All of these opportunities allow our students to not only develop their academic and intellectual capacity, but also their social, emotional, physical, cultural and ethical capacities. It is wonderful to see so many students getting involved and challenging themselves through the holistic educational opportunities at GNLC.

Good News Lutheran College vs Geelong Lutheran College (GG Cup)

On Friday 1 March, a new tradition was formed. Year 12 participated in our first GG Cup, a competition in a variety of activities such as sports, debating, chess, and STEM against Geelong Lutheran. Despite the warm weather, it was a successful day with new friendships! Some of our students even asked if we could do it again later in the year and Year 11 students asked if they get to do it next year. With the home advantage, Good News Lutheran did take away the win. However, there was strong competition with both schools having wins across activities.

Fit to Drive Incursion

Good News Lutheran College partnered up with the 'Fit 2 Drive' foundation to bring an interactive workshop to the Year 11 cohort on Thursday 29th of February.

This half-day workshop was designed to build upon students’ current road safety knowledge and examine the complexities of decision-making and risk assessment as a young road user. The expertise of local Victoria Police and Fire Rescue Victoria officers was utilised as students were given exposure to non-negotiable facts surrounding road laws and a relevant real-life case study.

Year 7 Camp - The Summit

Students ventured to The Summit for their Year 7 Camp. This camp experience was all about growing confidence, resilience, teamwork and personal growth. We are incredibly proud of the students who challenged themselves and embraced the adventure. They completed fun activities such as the Sky Bridge, Giant Swing, Mud Race, Flying Fox and even abseiling down the Big Tower!

Year 8 Camp - Phillip Island

From archery, giant swing and rafting to making their own bushman's breakfast, Year 8 students have had an incredible experience on the Phillip Island camp!

Year 9 Rite Journey

On Wednesday 6 March, students went to Geelong for their Rite Journey experience.

The program is designed to support the growth of thriving citizens, equipped for their own unique journey, and armed with the skills and dispositions needed to not only flourish in school, but in life. The aim was to include experiences to guide transition into adulthood, foster connection with positive adult role models, connect students with their strengths, build self-awareness and develop responsible, resilient and respectful teens.
