Making Pizza with 1/2's & 4/5's Last Day Celebrations

This year with the Kitchen Garden Program we have been concentrating on cooking from scratch.  Which means we make everything using the ingredients we have.

Today we picked the herbs from our garden, used tomatoes kindly donated to us from Vinnies and the wonderful church volunteers to make pizza sauce.   We made the pizza dough from both donations and a little bit of shopping.

Here are the recipes and some photos.

Have a lovely Christmas Holiday Time.  I can't wait to get back in the Kitchen and Garden next year with your wonderful Children.

Many thanks

Quick Yeast Pizza Dough

1 ¼ Cups warm water

3 Tbsp sugar

1 Tbsp dried yeast granules

1 Tbsp vegetable oil

1 tsp salt

3 Cups White Flour

½ tsp baking powder

Dissolve the sugar in the warm water.

Sprinkle yeast over the warm water, add oil and stir gently for a few seconds.

Leave to stand for at least five minutes to allow the yeast to begin acting.

Once yeast starts to bubble and looks a little foamy add flour and salt and sprinkle over the baking powder.

Stir together until in comes away from the bowl and forms a ball.

With oiled hands or rolling pin roll out the dough to as thin or thick as you like.

Leave to rise if you have time.

Add homemade pizza sauce or brought sauce if you like, add toppings and cheese.

Bake at 200C for about 10 minutes.

Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce

1 can of tomatoes or 5-6 fresh tomatoes pureed (blended)

1 garlic clove, more if you like

Onion

Fresh Basil, Oregano, Thyme (or dried herbs work to)

Carrot

  1. Crush or chop the garlic and sauté the garlic in a saucepan.
  2. Chop onion and add to the saucepan.
  3. Blend tomatoes and carrot and fresh herbs together in a blender. If you don't like onion chunky you can add them to blender as well after you have sautéed them with the garlic.
  4. Add tomatoes to the saucepan and stir, cook to reduce the sauce.
  5. Let cool before adding to the top of the pizza dough.
