A message from the Principal

Welcome Back to the 2025 School Year!

A warm welcome to all as we embark on what promises to be a fantastic year ahead! I trust that you’ve all had a well-deserved and relaxing break, filled with precious moments spent with family and friends, enjoying the beautiful Melbourne summer weather. We are so excited to welcome you back for the start of the 2025 school year tomorrow, Thursday 30th January, and we are raring to go!

This week, our dedicated staff have been working hard during our curriculum days to prepare for the year ahead. Not only have they made sure that their classrooms are looking inviting and ready for engaging learning, but they’ve also been immersed in some valuable professional development.

We’ve spent time focusing on how we can best use the early part of the year to set ourselves up for success. One key area of focus has been our CAPSE (Creating a Positive School Environment) program, which aims to foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all students. In doing this, we’ve delved into some fascinating aspects of the Science of Learning, exploring the simple model of memory and cognitive load theory. We know that for students to engage in effective learning, it's essential to capture their attention and establish clear, well-understood routines that support the brain in freeing up working memory. This, in turn, helps students engage more deeply with their learning. The start of our year will be working to this end.

I’m also thrilled to share that we’ve introduced PhOrMeS, a new reading and spelling program that embeds the science of reading and systematic, synthetic phonics into our approach to Literacy. Our teachers are excited to begin teaching these sessions in the coming days, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our students' reading and spelling development.

As we step into 2025, we are filled with excitement and optimism for the year ahead. We look forward to reconnecting with both students and families, building on our strong community, and working together to make this year truly special.

I’m eager to see the growth, achievements, and moments of joy that will unfold over the coming months.

Here’s to a wonderful school year ahead!
