Baseball
Both the First IX and U16 Baseball teams secured victories over the weekend. The First IX had an exciting win in a top-of-the-table clash against the Five Dock Bigs, showcasing large amounts of teamwork in a strong performance. Meanwhile, the U16 team also came out on top in their respective game, adding to the success of the weekend. Two from two for SPC Baseball, well done to all involved.
Cricket
During the holidays, the First XI played a fixture against Scotch College, Perth and came out victorious, with Matthew Plunkett scoring an impressive 102 runs and Will Allen contributing 62 runs. They also competed against Waverley College in the Berg Murphy Shield and secured another win, continuing their strong performance over the break.
Over the weekend many members of the First XI Cricket team took part in the ISA selection trials, I would like to congratulate William Allen, Charlie Gray, Luke Hill and Matthew Plunkett on making the team.
On Saturday morning I had the opportunity to see some of the U16 Gold SPC Cricket team fixture against a very strong Concord Black team. While the went down in a narrow loss, the teamwork, camaraderie and overall positive attitude of the team was fantastic and made me very proud to be apart of the SPC Community. Special mention to Samuel Naccarella who scored 42 not out in an inspirational performance.
Basketball
On 22 and 23 January, the First V competed in the Trinity Challenge which was hosted at Barker College. This was quite a challenging tournament as some of the strongest schools and players in the state were competing. While our team had a few players missing and others playing through with niggling injuries, the team spirit and camaraderie shown by SPC boys was fantastic and saw us nearly beat a very strong Joey’s team. Special mention to Xavier Antunes for demonstrating fantastic leadership both on and off the court. This acted as a warmup for the final rounds ahead in the ISA competition.
Reminders
All ISA competitions resume this weekend, fixtures shared on our College App and Website.
Annual House Swimming Carnival is on next week, Thursday 13 February.
