This Week At OOPS

Ready, Set, Go!
We are looking forward to an exciting and action-packed week of sport at our school!
On Monday, our Year 3–6 students will head off to the Athletics Carnival, ready to give their best in a range of events and cheer on their teammates. Then on Friday, the whole school will come together for our Cross Country event—this will be a fantastic morning filled with energy, determination and house spirit.
We are especially excited to see our students (and staff!) proudly wearing our new House T-shirts, adding even more colour and team pride to these special events.
Be sure to check out the Sports section later in the newsletter for full event schedules and further details. We can’t wait to see everyone get involved and make the most of this fantastic week of sport!
Prep Learning
This week in Prep, we have been learning to subitise. Subitising is the ability to quickly recognise how many objects are in a group without counting. Subitising is an important early maths skill that helps build strong number sense and supports students to work with numbers more confidently. The students have been busy playing games and exploring a range of activities to practise this skill.
Harmony Day – Monday 30 March
Old Orchard Primary School will be celebrating Harmony Day on Monday 30th March as part of our Term 1 Wellbeing Day. Harmony Day is a chance for our school community to celebrate diversity, respect and belonging, recognising that everyone in our community has a place and something valuable to contribute.
Students will participate in a range of activities throughout the day that focus on culture, identity, friendship and inclusion. Classes will take part in discussions, shared reading, games and activities that help students learn more about each other and the many cultures that make up our school community.
To mark the day, students are invited to come to school in free dress wearing the colour orange, which is the official colour of Harmony Day, or in cultural clothing that reflects their heritage or family background.
Families are also encouraged to talk with their children about their own family traditions, cultural celebrations, or special experiences they may wish to share with their class.
We look forward to celebrating the diversity of our community and reinforcing the message that everyone belongs at Old Orchard.
