What it means to be a Quaker School - Friends' Information and Discussion Session

9am to 10am, Wednesday 11 March - The Meeting House, Argyle Street Campus (tea/coffee from 8.45am)

We warmly invite all parents and guardians to join us for a discussion and information session exploring Quaker beliefs, practices and values, and how they are central to The Friends’ School.

These interactive and reflective sessions are a wonderful opportunity to deepen your understanding of what it means to be a Quaker school, how students engage with Quaker values, and how spiritual practices such as silence and Gatherings support the wellbeing and development of young people.

Led by members of our staff, including Quaker Gathering Advisor Jess Dundas and Quaker Advisor Mark Macleod, the session will include:

  • What makes The Friends’ School a Quaker school?
  • Insights into the origins of Quakerism and its relevance in today’s world
  • An introduction to SPICEE – our core values: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Earthcare.
  • An overview of Gatherings – a unique and deeply meaningful part of school life

2026 Student Residential Address and Other Information Collection

The Australian Government Department of Education would like to notify you that they have requested the School to provide students and their family's residential address and other information. Under the Australian Education Regulation 2013, the School is required to provide the department with the following information about each student at the school:

  • Names and residential addresses of the student’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s)
  • Student residential address (excluding student names)
  • Whether the student is a primary or secondary student (education level)
  • Whether the student is boarding or a day student (boarding status).

The School collects the above information by generating a unique and unidentifiable – student reference number (SRN) for each student record. The school only uses the SRN for this collection. It is not allowed to be used for any other purpose. The number only indicates to the department that each record provided is for one student.

Further information can be viewed here.

We request that all parents / guardians ensure their residential information is up to date in the "Details" section of Paperly, a guide is available here.

School Fair | Volunteer Sign Up, Charity Partner and Call for Donations

School Fair - 11am-2pm Saturday 21 March 2026

Volunteers

Parents and guardians are invited to sign up to volunteer on stalls at the Fair via:

https://signup.com/go/NRxpphQ

Please note that this year, every volunteer will be required to have a Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Permit. You can submit your WWVP number when using the Sign Up Sheet. More information on how to apply for a free WWVP card here.

House stalls will be run by students, so parents/guardians are not required to help on these stalls.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Fair Charity Partner

We are pleased to advise that the Migrant Resources Centre (MRC Tas) will be the charity partner and recipient of funds raised at the School Fair. Funds raised from the Fair will be used to support the MRC Tas' Humanitarian Settlement Program, which helps humanitarian entrants and eligible visa holders in integrating into Tasmanian life. The program helps new arrivals build the skills and knowledge needed to become self-reliant and active community members, focusing on English language learning, employment, education, and training.

Donations

The Fair Organising Committee is seeking assistance/donations with the following:

  • Do you have soft toys that are ready for a new home?

Year 3 will be holding an adopt-a-toy stall at the upcoming school Fair. We are looking to the school community to donate toys. If you have a single toy or a bag of toys that can be donated, please contact Kate Wright 0426 883 099. Thank you.

  • Pantry items - donations of honey would be appreciated - it was very popular last time!
  • Books or games in good condition - suitable for children & adults
  • Friends' School uniform - specifically, good condition dresses, blazers, soft shell jackets and track pants.

Pantry, books and uniform donations can be dropped off at The Friends' School Main Reception at our Commercial Road Campus (enter at 23 Commercial Road, North Hobart) between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
