Year 8 Vikings
This year in History, Year 8 students have been learning about the Vikings and their expansion across Europe. As part of an assessment task, students were tasked to recreate a Viking artefact and explain its historical significance to the Viking Era.
The HSIE Faculty is extremely proud of the quality submissions received for this Assessment Task. Well done Year 8!
Ancient History Excursion
Mr Heydeman took Year 11 and 12 Ancient History students to the Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney.
The students had a great time analysing genuine ancient artefacts from periods including Bronze Age Greece, New Kingdom Egypt and Imperial Rome. As part of this, students selected an artefact of interest to draw while also answering questions for deeper historical analysis. These questions were based on their own judgement from their interactions with the artefact. Each student had great ideas on the origin, purpose, and significance of their chosen artefacts.
Upon completing their analysis, the students were taken on a guided tour by one of the museum representatives. They saw hundreds of artefacts spanning across ancient cultures from all over Egypt, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, and the Middle East.
The excursion provided deep insights into the students’ study of Ancient History, with many of the students reporting that the handling of artefacts was a significant experience in their schooling career.
Thank you to the Chau Chak Wing Museum for hosting us; it was an experience that we will not forget.
