A New School Year
It has been fantastic to welcome all our students back to school and see the school community come alive again. Across all year levels, children are settling into their classrooms, reconnecting with friends, and engaging enthusiastically in learning. We thank families for their support in preparing students for the year ahead.
Starting school, whether it’s a new year, a new class, or a new school it always brings a mix of excitement and adjustment. Over the coming weeks you may notice your child feeling more tired than usual. This is very normal as they adapt to earlier mornings, new routines and a full day of learning and play.
Routines at Home
Establishing consistent routines at home supports children’s wellbeing and their ability to engage in learning. Regular bedtimes help ensure students get the rest they need. A calm wind down and quiet time in the evenings, limited screens before bedtime, and predictable morning routines all help children feel secure and ready for the day.
Devices & Screen Time
We encourage families to be mindful of device use, especially in the evenings. Reducing screen time before bed can greatly improve sleep quality, helping students feel refreshed and ready to learn.
Healthy Eating & Hydration
Lunchboxes that include simple, nourishing foods help keep students focused and energised throughout the day. Fresh fruit, vegetables, and balanced snacks are always appreciated, along with a water bottle for regular hydration. We also remind families that we are a nut-aware school, so please avoid sending foods that contain nuts.
Supporting Your Child
Children settle in at different rates, and some may take a little longer to adjust to the routines and expectations of school life. If your child seems tired or emotional at the end of the day, extra rest, calm evenings and open conversation can make a big difference. It is often a good idea to be mindful of the load that your litle people have after school with their activities. It is ok to have a rest from swimming, tennis or gymnastics if it is all feeling a little bit too much.
At Sacred Heart, our teachers walk their class out at the end of the day. We encourage this practice as it provides an opportunity for connection and a brief touch base with families. It may be that your child needs a little reassurance during the day, encountered something challenging or we want to let you know of their achievement.
Next week we will have Parent Teacher Chat opportunities on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30pm–6:00pm with your child’s teacher. We encourage all families to book a time to connect and discuss how the year has begun. Please sign into the nForma Portal and make a booking via the nMeet tab.
We are looking forward to a great year at Sacred Heart.
