From Our College Captains

Welcome To Our Year 7s
Thomas Rossi, College Captain
I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Year 7 students, the newest members of the St Bede’s College community. Your year will be full of many new experiences, meeting new people and forming friendships you will keep throughout your journey at St Bede’s.
In the coming weeks and into Term 2, you will go to our Phillip Island Camp, which I still remember to be one of the best experiences of my time here at the College. It is the first of many events, followed by House Athletics, the Year 7 Welcome Picnic and Mission Action Day towards the last week of Term.
On behalf of all the College Captains, we can’t wait to spend time with you at theWelcome Picnic on Monday 16 February.
College Family Mass
Ethan Thredgold, Lasallian Captain
Our annual St Bede’s College Family Mass is a special opportunity for our community to gather in faith and celebrate our Lasallian heritage. We would like to warmly invite each of you and your families.
For the first time, the Mass will include a special Badging ceremony for our Year 7s as well as the Commissioning of our College Leaders and Year Level leaders alongside their families.
The Mass is on Thursday 26 February and we look forward to seeing you there.
Mission Action Day
Nick Shipham & Daniel Athaide, College Vice Captains
Each year, we are all given the opportunity to contribute to the Lasallian community that we play such a vital role in. Understanding that our acts of service can have a huge impact on others and by supporting those in our society who are less fortunate than us, we can help improve their lives for the better.
I’m pleased to introduce everyone to Mission Action Day - MAD - where we all work together to raise funds in service of our fellow Lasallian students in impoverished communities, particularly in Pakistan, Thailand, and also in the remote Indigenous community of Darby in Western Australia.
This year for Mission Action Day, we are looking for everyone to give 100% in their efforts -whether that is fundraising, getting involved in activities or simply being a positive member of the St Bede’s community.
The day itself sees all of us take a 10km walk or run along the bay, sponsored by family and friends to reach our fundraising target. This is the biggest event each year here and the fundraising creates opportunities and vital facilities for those who need it most.
That same day, we also celebrate Founders Day, with carnival rides, games and heaps of fun activities.
So let’s start preparing our ideas for MAD day and be ready to make a difference.
We look forward to seeing you for Mission Action Day on Friday 27 March.
Sport Opportunities
Oran Jenkins, College Vice-Captain
In terms of sport and ACC, Term 1 has so many great opportunities to get involved in, on offer. Beginning with Hackett Mile, followed by the House Athletics Carnival, I encourage everyone to get involved and contribute to the success of your houses. Athletics Carnival is an opportunity to run beside your mates, have fun and try to win your house as many points as you can.
For some of us, it’s honestly the highlight of the year, so be sure to put your name down for as many events as you can. Not too far away, we also have the House Swimming Carnival in Term 2, as well as House Cross Country in Term 3.
To our Year 7s, Term 1 is a fantastic time to try out for ACC teams and get involved in as many sports as you’d like. St Bede’s truly has some of the best teams in the entire competition and the opportunity to try out is one you won’t regret.
Our College currently holds the championship title for ACC Swimming: six years in a row, and we’ve also won ACC cross country 5 times over the past 6 years. You can be part of making history!
I encourage each and every one of you to make the most of ACC during your time at St Bede’s, and most importantly whole College events. It’s where you’ll make the best memories with your friends, refine your talents and make yourself proud.
Best of luck to you and your Houses.
From Our Ecological Captains
I'm Bailey Mitchell, and I am proud to be your 2026 Ecological Leader. This year, I have several key aims, with a strong focus on increasing and protecting the biodiversity at St Bede’s.
We have already made a great start. During Flying Start, native plant species indigenous to the Mentone area were planted at our Mentone Campus, including kangaroo paw, viola, Rhodanthe ‘Star Shower’, and Adenanthos ‘Silver Streak’, among others. These plants play an important role in supporting local ecosystems by attracting pollinators, helping spread seeds, and increasing overall biodiversity in our local area.
One ongoing challenge, however, is pollution—particularly litter around the school grounds. Unfortunately, rubbish left on the ground is often blown onto the front oval and can eventually make its way into Port Phillip Bay, where it negatively impacts the marine ecosystem.
My goal this year is to stop, or at least significantly reduce, the amount of litter around our school. One simple and effective way we can all help is by choosing nude food or litter-free lunches. This involves reducing plastic wrappers and packaging and using reusable containers instead. Not only does this reduce waste, but it also makes it easier for students to dispose of rubbish responsibly without leaving their friends or conversations behind.
If we take this small step together as a school community, we can make a big difference and work towards a cleaner, litter-free St Bede’s.
Hi everyone, my name Marco Lo Bianco, and as Co-Captain with Bailey, I see this role as a chance to lead by example, not just through words but through actions.
One simple thing I believe makes a big difference is retaining your litter and/or disposing of it appropriately. You can even take it one step further by picking up other people's litter. It might seem insignificant, and maybe even "uncool", but when others see one of their mates taking responsibility for their environment, it encourages them to do the same. Keeping our school clean shows respect for our space, each other, and the wider community. I want to assist in the removal of the social stigma associated with picking up rubbish on the ground, and help make that a normal habit for everyone.
This year I seek to help foster a College culture where people feel motivated to step up and do the right thing, even when no one is watching. I want to encourage more student involvement, stronger school pride, and a sense that everyone’s actions matter. We can even do it for points to the mighty Beda Shield - so let's work together to do it again here. Which the rewards will prove much more significant.
Looking to the future, I hope to keep developing my leadership skills and continue being someone others can rely on and look up to. I’m excited for what we can achieve together in helping our beautiful environment, and proving to the surrounding schools that we are best fit for the location right on the beach!
