Year 3/4A

WELCOME!
Welcome to the new school year from 3/4A! We are delighted to welcome all our students, their families and are excited for the year ahead. We have made a very positive start to the year, with students settling in well, building routines, and approaching their learning with enthusiasm and confidence. We’re looking forward to a wonderful year of growth, learning, and success together.
SWPBS
Students in 3/4A have also commenced their learning around our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support program. Through a series of mini lessons, students have been explicitly taught expectations for active listening, using good manners, moving safely and calmly during transitions, and demonstrating positive behaviour in the yard. These lessons are closely linked to our school values of Respect, Achieve, Inspire, and Connect, supporting students to understand how these values look and sound in everyday school life.
ENGLISH
This term, students in 3/4A have commenced reading the Roald Dahl novel Matilda. Through shared reading and discussion, students are identifying and exploring a wide range of literary devices used by Dahl, including characterisation, descriptive language, humour, and exaggeration. The purpose of this learning is to deepen students’ understanding of how authors engage readers, and to apply these techniques to the planning and creation of their own class narratives.
MATHEMATICS
In Mathematics, students in 3/4A have been developing their understanding of data collection, display, and interpretation. They have conducted data collection surveys and recorded results using tally sheets, before representing this information in bar charts, Venn diagrams, and two-way diagrams. Students have also been learning how to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions, using evidence from the information presented to explain patterns, similarities, and differences.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN assessments for Year 3 students will commence between Wednesday 11 March and Monday 23 March. In the coming weeks, students will participate in a small number of practice assessments to help familiarise them with the format and expectations of the upcoming tests. These activities are designed to build confidence and reduce anxiety, while supporting students to do their best. If parents have any questions or concerns regarding NAPLAN, they are encouraged to speak with Mrs Herbert or Mr Durrington, who will be happy to provide further information and support.
