Year 11 Leadership Conference

On Monday 22nd June, a group of Year 11 students participated in a leadership conference which provided us valuable insights into what it means to be an effective leader. Throughout the day, we participated in multiple leadership building activities allowing us to learn from experienced presenters who have explored leadership from different perspectives.

In the first session, we heard from a Melbourne University professor, who walked us through the key characteristics of successful leaders. Her presentation took us through some partner bonding ice breakers and group activities. We shared our top strengths and learnt about what they mean. She also walked us through how to improve our bottom strengths. This session encouraged us to learn what specific traits meant and how as individuals we can lead different situations effectively.

We were also privileged to hear from a leadership coach Mr. Edmund King. Previously he has worked with many big corporations and AFL teams on how to make their winning strategies better and how to work together as teams. From him we learnt the importance and depths of leadership. He talked about the importance of understanding our personal leadership philosophy and style. He taught us that effective leadership is not about holding a position of power but about undressing yourself, your values and the impact you have on others. This session was very interactive and encouraged us to reflect on the type of leader we wanted to become and how our actions influence those around us.

One of the most engaging aspects of the conference was the opportunity to work in groups with students we did not usually interact with. Through a range of collaborative activities and problem-solving tasks, we developed teamwork skills, built new relationships and learned how important it is to listen to different perspectives.

Overall, the leadership conference was an inspiring and thought-provoking experience. It challenged us to think more deeply about leadership and provided practical skills that we can apply to both within school and in our community.

House Chorals Competition

Our relished House Chorals competition took place once again this year, bringing the school community together on a lively evening earlier this month.

The night itself perfectly captured this year’s theme of Celebrating Community, as students, teachers and families gathered to celebrate music, teamwork and unity.

With weeks of rehearsal, students across every House stepped up onto the stage and delivered performances shaped by collaboration and commitment, not only singing the same lyrics but presenting a shared sense of dedication and pride. This was the moment they had spent countless lunchtimes and afterschool sessions preparing for.

Congratulations to Eucalyptus, who were crowned Champions of the 2026 House Chorals Competition! Their performance of “Inanay” conveyed the theme of Celebrating Community in a powerful and meaningful way, as a traditional Indigenous children’s lullaby. The song encompasses connection and belonging, being shared from generations to generations.

It was beyond wonderful to listen to and learn about every House’s song, and to see the supportive crowd that showed up. A sincere thank you to all the participants, staff and judges who contributed to the night’s success.

We look forward to seeing you all again for next year’s Chorals!
