Alumni Updates

Congratulations
Congratulations to Beatrice Tran (WS 2012) and Jack Zhang (WS 2012) on the birth of their son, Billy.
Billy Kai Zhang was born on the morning of 27th November 2025. Beatrice & I are so grateful to have little Billy in our lives, and parenting him in these early months has been a joy. With that being said, there is certainly no shortage of sleep deprivation, uncertainties and worries along the way!
It feels like a daunting task to be instrumental in the shaping of a little human being, but we’re constantly reminded to tackle each day by remembering God’s grace and its implication for our identity. It’s comforting to know that we have a heavenly Father who loves us as much as we love our little one. We know that we can’t be the perfect parents all the time—no one can be perfect—but our hope is that we set an example for Billy to show him that he doesn’t need to strive in his own strength and self-determination, but that he can rely on Jesus to transform his heart daily.
Our prayer for him is that, just like Paul’s advice to the Corinthian church, Billy will 'Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that [he does] be done in love.' – 1 Corinthians 16:13–14 ESV
In Memoriam
It is with profound sadness and great shock that we share the news of the passing of our former colleague and friend, Alan Oh, on Tuesday 24th February 2026.
Alan joined WCC on 13th May 2002, becoming the College’s very first dedicated IT staff member—a true pioneer who helped shape our journey into the digital age. At a time when wireless technology was only emerging and the internet was still a novelty, Alan laid the groundwork for the robust systems we now take for granted. His legacy is woven through every classroom, office and network cable across our campuses.
Across almost 22 years of service, Alan’s contribution was extraordinary. From managing the earliest networks, to leading the College through the challenges of remote learning during the COVID years, his work was marked by dedication, innovation and quiet perseverance. Many will remember Alan’s calm presence, dry humour, and unfailing patience—particularly when technology had other ideas! He was always willing to help, often working long hours behind the scenes to ensure others could do their jobs with ease and confidence.
Alan’s professional expertise was matched by his humility and generosity. He remained grounded, never seeking the spotlight, yet his influence was profound and lasting. Even in his final years at the College, he could still be found fixing cables or sorting out a Wi-Fi issue—a testament to his hands-on approach and commitment to doing things well.
After their retirement from WCC in March 2024, Alan and his wife Helene, who was also a long-time college staff member, looked forward to time together travelling and enjoying retirement. Unfortunately, Alan experienced some health issues very soon after his retirement and that began a battle he bravely faced over the last twelve months. Our hearts go out to Helene and their children, Adrian (WS 2005) and Amelia (WS 2008), who walked closely with Alan in this journey. We extend our deepest condolences to them and their extended family during this incredibly difficult time. Our comfort and assurance is that Alan is now with his Lord and Saviour (John 14:2-3)—safe with the One he worshipped, trusted and faithfully followed throughout his life.
There was a memorial service held for Alan Oh on Thursday 5th March at CityLife Church.
