From Student to Staff

What years did you attend the College?
I attended the NWS Campus of the College throughout my high school years from Year 7 (2016) to Year 12 (2021). Here's our class' Year 12 video!
What is your fondest memory from your years as a Waverley student?
It’s hard to pick a single fondest memory as a WCC student – there are simply too many. The most meaningful memories are often the ones that taste a hint bittersweet. Some of my favourites have been the school productions, especially Beauty & The Beast back in Year 10 (2019); the school camps, particularly the Mission Trip to West Timor and all the Duke of Edinburgh expeditions: exploring the outdoors, enduring the challenges set before us and embracing the adventure alongside my friends, many of whom I am still close with today. Bible class was easily my favourite subject, where I learned a lot more than I probably realised at the time.
If I had to choose just one moment, it would be VETA Camp—the night we spent on the farm laying side by side on the grass, quietly soaking in the wonder of creation, gazing up into a tapestry of stars that seem to stretch into eternity. For me, it’s a reminder that our story will always be part of a much greater story, an eternal story. One that holds both the vastness of the stars and the simplicity of a single sacred moment, woven together in ways we don’t always see at the time. I will cherish this memory always.
What are some of the main differences about the College now compared to when you attended?
It’s so much bigger now. Four secondary streams! When I started at the college, we had only two: 7A and, of course, 7B (the cool homeroom). By the time we graduated there were three: 12A, 12B & 12C. The College has grown a lot over the years. I remember assembly used to be outside on the basketball courts before the MPC came along. Now we have the Junior Secondary Building as well, and more infrastructure on the way.
What has never changed?
Even though the College has evolved, growing significantly in both staff, students and structures, the Kingdom culture here at Waverley Christian College NWS remains evergreen, and I pray it will continue to remain so. There’s an aching hunger for the truth at the belly of this College and there’s a genuine desire to love God and love one another, beating at the centre of the school’s heart. We don’t always get it perfect, but this pursuit of the truth, discovered and shared amongst one another in loving relationship, is the lifeblood that flows through every vessel of the College community.
How long have you been with the College and what is your role?
I’ve had the privilege of joining the staff faculty at the College since 2025 in the role of Teaching Assistant (Student Teacher) as per the CITE Alliance program which equips Christan teachers in training with practical formation opportunities. I worked in Primary with Year 5C throughout 2025. I am now working in Secondary in the Outdoor Education and Biblical Studies spaces.
What do you love most about your role/the WCC community?
Almost every room in this College is infused with memories of my own schooling years and the havoc we had the pleasure of wreaking along the way! It’s an amusing blessing to now get a familiar taste of my own medicine at times, witnessing today’s students rise in their own time and in their own way, often after having learned from the same mistakes I most likely made myself. With the Lord as our helmsman through every storm, I believe it’s these very challenges that pave the way for these students to encounter His grace for themselves. By His work through the College and both the staff and student’s willingness to respond, we are all being shaped and shaping one another into men and women more fit to go fourth and make disciples of all nations. It’s this missional dynamic that I love most about the work we do here at Waverley Christian College.
Any final thoughts/reflections on your time at WCC over the years?
It’s been an epic journey so far and a real blessing to be a part of and know such a wonderful, talented and dedicated community of people here at Waverley Christian College, who all come together to make this school possible. Glimpses of heaven on earth. I axcited to be a part of it as this journey continues to unfold.
